value differences

Hi all,
What would you say are the major differences between the all-stars and pop? We stayed at Pop last year and loved it. I am tempted to rebook there since we were very happy with it, but I also think it might be a good idea to try ASMo.

What can you think of as the major differences?

Thanks!
Anne

(Also, can anyone tell me how much a soft drink and/or coffee is at the food court of a value?)

Pop doesn't share a bus with any other resort, sometimes the All-Stars share buses with each other, but not always.

I don't like the furniture at the All Stars. It looks like "pretend" furniture for a playhouse or something. The ASMo would be my choice out of the the three AS resorts, though.

From the MouseSavers.com website.....

Pop Century has several advantages compared with the All-Star resorts. It is newer, so there has been less wear-and-tear on everything. The decor of the public areas at Pop Century is a bit more up-to-date and the room decor is less glaring. Pop Century is the only Value resort that has a bar/lounge on property. It also has a fountain play area for kids -- the other Value resorts don't.

While the basic room rate is identical at all four Value resorts, the hotel tax rate at the All-Stars is 13%, while the hotel tax rate at Pop Century is 11.5%. That seems like a small difference, but over the course of a longer stay it can add up. For instance, let's say you plan a 7-night stay during Holiday Season in 2004. You would save almost $12 on your total room cost by choosing Pop Century instead of one of the All-Star resorts.

There is really no difference at all between the three All-Star resorts. Just pick whichever one offers the theme that appeals most to you.

I've only stayed at All Star Sports for about 2 nights (a few years ago) and will be staying at the Pop for a night for the first time in about two weeks so I don't have much to offer. However, from the menus at allearsnet.com it looks like the Pop has more variety at their food court than the All Stars (plus they have the coke icee machines at the Pop, I'm addicted to those and can see the all-you-can-drink mugs coming in quite handy for that!)

We've stayed at all of the value resorts and I would say the biggest difference between the AS and POP is the size of the buildings. POP has 4 floors instead of 3 and more rooms in each 'leg' of the 'T' than AS (12 instead of 10, I believe). You can't tell by looking, really, because the ratio is the same.

I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing. Having stayed at POP most recently, I'm wondering if the AS will look tiny and cramped or cozy and compact? Of the three AS, Music is my least favorite due to the layout and theming. Sports and Movies are similar in layout and POP is just an expanded version of those with an extra pool at one end.

We loved POP and Movies so I would think either one would be a good choice. However, I do think the food selection might be a bit better at POP as was stated above. Plus it's newer, has the lounge, lake and less tax. So, you decide....and enjoy!
