Valium and Flexeril: Which would you take if you had to?

This is for back spasms, btw.

Which is stronger? Which has stronger side effects?

This is for my son for a minor back injury from Track.

The reason I ask is the DR prescribed valium for me (several years ago) and my son Flexeril. So I was wondering what the big difference is between the two of them?

I definitely wouldn't give him anything that wasn't prescribed for him. Since my daughter is an athlete, I don't give her anything stronger than Tylenol for aches & pains, even if it was prescribed for her previously, because anything that masks pain could actually cause her to injure herself further.

If it's a minor spasm, flexeril is a muscle relaxer that will help ease the pain

Valium is something completely diffferent.

Flexeril is a muscle relaxant that works great for back spasms. I Flexeril.

My doctor has prescibed valium for my back spasms but it does very little. I would go with flexeril and see how that works.

Without a doubt flexeril.

This is the drug that I love. No drug has ever made me feel as good as this!

Both are muscle relaxants. Flexoril is less sedating over time. The initial doses will be sedating but subsequent doses are less sedating after 24 hours or so. Valium is usually always sedating but it works well too. Give him what the Doc wants him to have.

I wonder why they (the drs) prescribe both then for the same muscle pain situations?

I thought both were muscle relaxants.

Both knock me out so I would take before bed but I thought the Flexeril worked better.

He just didn't chose it. It works well as a muscle relaxant but its sedating, as is Vicodin, Percocet, Flexoril, etc.

I am allergic to codeine so I cant take many of the things you listed, and I was given valium for back problems, I was also once given valium during an extreme cramping mentural episode.

Interesting. I have been prescribed valium two different times with my back problems by two different doctors. I, too, was surprised as I would never have thought valium for back pain problems. For me, they work, tho.

Valium will help him to relax and Flexiril is more of a skeletal muscle relaxer... but Flexiril put me down for two days..... Valium is stronger but the Valium will help him also....

have you tried soma? i have taken something called soma 250 (not as strong as the 350) and it worked great and I can still go about my daily chores...

Flexeril - I had the craziest dreams ever and switched to another muscle relaxer. I also felt awful the next morning.
My 14 yr old son had a pres. for flexeril and had no problems but he used it short term.

I was put on valium for back pain. I pulled a muscle in my lower back. I did not have a disc problem, or joint soreness in my spinal column. Valium works great for muscle spasm's. I just want to say, my grandmother was put on valium in the late 60's early 70's, when she was in her late 40's. Now I understand why it was so hard for her to focus and stay in the moment.
