Valet Laundry service at Deluxe question

We will be staying at Wilderness Lodge and though we were thinking of using the self service machines, we won't have time to until the 8th day we are there which leaves us with only 3 more full days of vacation. We don't want to bring a crap load of clothes and considering we are going for so long and going when the temp changes so drastically throughout the day we are thinking about valet laundry services for earlier in the week.

*How much does one load of valet laundry cost?
Will it cost less if we brought our own detergent?

We've used valet laundry at the deluxes when DH is travelling with us for work. It's very expensive compared to self-serve laundry, and no, you can't bring your own detergents to save on the cost. We had sveeral items such as business shirts, dress pants, undershirts, dress socks, etc. done & it was $65. We had to because DH was there for 2 weeks for work & he didn't want to check several bags with his work clothing in. We did it for convenience.

It's not a price per load, it's per piece - like $6 per shirt, $2 per pair of socks or underwear, etc. The link in the above post shows the prices.

Thanks for the response. Looks like I will be finding time to do laundry. Do you know if the self serve is open 24 hours?

Yes, it is. I tend to do laundry if the family is at the pool...start a load, go to the pool, relax, and then put it in a dryer.
Or, later in the evening works for me as well. My biggest suggestion would be to try to pack like colors...not a ton of heavy darks and a bunch of lights. If they are all in the same 'family' you can get away with fewer loads. Or, just wash the lighter stuff...not jeans and sweatshirts unless they obviously need it!!!

I do pack my own laundry detergent and fabric softener sheets though...that cuts down on the cost.

I do this as well, those all-in-one sheets are super easy to pack.

I also have done laundry during the night or early in the morning, the laundry rooms have always been open. You'd be surprised how many other people are up doing the same thing!

I like to take one afternoon in a week to go to the pool, flip in a load of laundry, have lunch, put clothes in dryer and hop in the pool while the clothes dry.

You may want to check this website. They will pick-up, wash, dry, fold and deliver back to your resort and you pay by the pound I believe. It depends on how much free time you have and if you want to take the time to do it while on vacation.

We have a whole day of absolute nothing to do but I planned it wrong and I made it 3/4 of the way through our vacation so it's almost useless to do laundry at that point. I might just wash some in the morning and let them air dry in the room depending on the amount of clothes I decide to wash. NOt sure how long their dryers take.

Here is another tip when doing laundry at a Disney resort. Keep in mind you will be competing with other guests for use of the machines and also you will have to deal with equipment that is broken. Years ago we had a nightmare situation at the Wilderness lodge where there was a line a mile long filled with people who were waiting to do laundry and more than half of the machines were broken. We found that the most crowded times in the laundry room are at night after people come back from the parks.

We've also found the best time to do laundry at a Disney resort is early in the morning, say 4:30 or 5 am. This is your best chance at having ALL the machines empty so, if you have more than 1 load like we always do (3 boys), you can do it in one time cycle versus only having 1 washer open and having to run 3 loads serially.

The other tip is to ask at the front desk where all of the laundry facilities are at your resort. Some resorts have more than 1 facility. One may be by the pool but there may be a smaller one somewhere in the resort. 'Zig' when everybody else will 'Zag' to the popularly known location if this is the case. We always do a 'drive by' the day before laundry day to check out the location and see how many machines are broken and, if there is more then 1 facility, which is more convenient for us. We also have been know to put on our room request "Close to laundry room". I can just imagine what the room assigners think of that!

Finally, we love taking the Purex laundry sheets to use as laundry detergent. They pack flat, are light in weight and are much cheaper that the highway robbery that occurs when you purchase detergent units on site. We also pack fabric softener sheets to add to the dryer because we love us some Bounce! We also take rolls of quarters in case the change machine is empty (and it frequently is). That beats having to forage for quarters and you can really make some one else's day when you offer to exchange your extra quarters for their paper dollars. pixiedust:

Good luck with your laundry. We've found that following the above information makes it the least painful and the most productive way to get the job done.
