So how do you follow a 40th birthday, well I got up at 6.45 made a coffee, showered and off with the laundry. Luckily we were close to the laundry room, and although we had only been there for one whole day, we had enough washing to do. Actually I needed to wash my jeans as I threw some coffee down me on the flight over and it was the only pair I had. After reading the instructions and playing a game with the change machine [you know the one, I put my dollar in as instructed and it is rejected for no reason, it took 20 minutes to get $4], I walked down to Port Royale to buy a paper and get another coffee. It is so nice at the CRB, the walk to PR along the beach with hardly anyone about. I then decided to sit by the pool and chill out reading the paper, but my peace was shattered by the words Dad have you got any money? I know I should have hidden in the bushes, so at 7.50am on a Sunday both boys are up and dressed [this has never happened before, not at this time on a Sunday]. They went down together to PR to get some breakfast, although against my better judgement, but they both returned in one piece although it appears Glenn only got to eat with about $3, while Scott had the remaining $12 and he was still moaning he did not eat enough!!
After the boys had a swim and we got the washing and drying out of the way, we drove to MGM, arrived about 10.45. Of course the first thing Scott, Glenn and I had to do was ride RNR Coaster, Val is not a thrill ride person. {Something to do with hair being out of place or age!!], we managed to get fast passes for 30 minutes later so we queued for 15 minutes rode it, had a look in the shop and got back on again. We were only here in December but the start of the ride always takes your breath away, you just forget how quick it is. This is a great ride and I would have stayed here all day, but Val wanted to see the rest of the park. We had a nice slow walk, well actually only made it to the first shop, so it was a very sort walk 30 seconds. Val needed to change a pair of earrings that she had brought in December that had fallen apart the first time she put them on, and we had also promised Scott a watch. Eventually they [not me] had made their exchanges and purchases [all sent to the room], we then walked to the GMR, it was such a hot day, just what we hoped for. I can take or leave this ride as I have ridden it so much but everyone else loves it.
We then decided to eat [guess who for?], we chose the ABC the food here is ok. Then it was off to the back lot tour, but not before I got teased as we walked past the coffee shop and book place, as when I was here for Thanksgiving I brought presents for the girls back in the office in Rochester and shipped them to them from here, as you can imagine Val was thrilled. [So you spend 3 months working here on your own you, have only been parted from them for five days and now you are sending them gifts. It appears there was no time for a defence and I was guilty] So as soon as we got near it this time I got three people saying to me, want to send something back to your girlfriends? I just kept on walking ignoring the teasing in the hope that they would give up, not my family.
Eventually we got on this tour, seemed like ages walking, really enjoy this ride every time; always see something I missed last time. When it was over Glenn remembered something in the shop that we promised him in November but never got back for, kids memories are great. It was now time for a beer, I managed to grab a beer while the others had an ice cream, we met and spoke to a lady from Chicago while we were sitting down, about the weather at ORD as we were connecting there on the way back. It is great being in the USA when people go out of their way to speak to you and be friendly because you have a British accent
After that we had a walkabout met some characters and took some pictures and no doubt some in my party checked out the shops!
We left MGM at 5.30, as we wanted to see the illuminations at Epcot, so the plan was go back to the Caribbean beach, eat, change and then get the bus to Epcot.
Got back to the room at 6, quickly changed and grabbed a pizza from the food court, while waiting I had a couple of Bud Lights and amused the bar staff. [They thought it was hilarious that as a Brit, one day I am wearing Yankees stuff and today Mets, I tried to explain but gave up, as it was a long story. But tomorrow it would be CUBS that will confuse them. The easy explanation is every place I work in the US I get the local team t-shirt, hat or shorts, the problem was one day I managed to mix Mets and Yankee stuff which produced quite a few strange looks]
After eating the pizza we headed off to Epcot, we just missed a bus, so decided to drive. Arrived at 8, quickly rode Spaceship Earth and did single rider on Test Track before heading over to world showcase. We always stand by the coffee stall and gift shop as soon as you cross the bridge, we dont worry about being in the front or the view, just being there is enough. Hearing the music and seeing most of the display is magical, and also not stressing out about getting the best place in the world to stand makes it so relaxing. This plan works 90% of the time as we always manage to stand in such a place that we get a good view. After getting a coffee and a soft drink for Val and the boys it was time to start. We have the CD at home and no matter how many times I hear it I like it even more, and to be actually be stood there now was a dream, Val feels the same way, so any evening I say Epcot there is never any hesitation.
After illuminations we just sat down and let the crowds go. I was glad I wore my jacket as it was quite chilly tonight [Not by UK standards], but I made the mistake of saying this aloud, Scott thought it was funny and offered me a blanket and asked me whether you feel the cold more when you get older!! [He must take after Val]
We strolled past the shop, well three of us anyway, so we all ended up inside eventually. Its ok Mousegears is my type of shop. Arrived back at CRB at 11.30, another full day, and my input for the night was this time next week we will be flying over the Atlantic so I went to sleep with the pleasant goodnight from everyone For god sake shut up!!
Tomorrow USF/IOA and ESPN Bar
