Having left things to the last minute I resorted to a visit to a local branch of Tesco's very early this morning at 5.14am to buy a couple of red roses at £1.99 each.
The till operator must have been coming to the end of his all night shift because he scanned the two in as one and charged me just for one ! Somehow I dont think its quite on to have a bargain of a valentine's present is it ?
I then went back home and finished a card I made myself using some very good clipart from Microsoft's website which was inspirational even though I say so myself.
By 6am the task was completed with both card and one flower being left by Janet's bedside, and the other one I left in her car for her to find later.
I then got a text from her later on thanking me for card, rose and text message. Then yet another later on after finding the second one in her car.
BUT, the story doesn't end there... Later in the day I had a call from DD saying that a lady had called from NatWest Access to query a transaction. I called straightaway and was asked about this unusually small transaction at an unusual time of day !!
It turns out that this was a security check up call because fraudsters quite often use small purchases as a way of checking out whether a credit card is ok before moving onto bigger purchases ! I was so impressed at this little bit of big brother keeping an eye out for my interests. And I also told the woman about the special two for the price of one deal I got on the rose too !
