What do you have to pay for once you're on board? Room service? The cookie/cheese platters? Special occasion cakes?

How much to get your hair braided?

Is pirate night on every cruise? Do they hand out the eye patches and scarves or do they sell that stuff on board?

I saw a pic of people sleeping in a pin line. What's that all about?

I'm sure I have more - I'll ask more when I remember them...

Here's the questions I can answer.

Room Service is free. Cookie and Cheese platters through room service are also free. Be sure to tip when you receive you order. We usually keep an envelope of dollar bills and tip $2-$4 depending on what we ordered.

Yes, there is pirate night on 3, 4 and 7 day cruises. They give out pirate scarves at dinner the night of the party.

You have certainly come to the right place to get your questions answered! The DIS is invaluable to anyone going on a DCL cruise!

You can get a special occasion cake by just letting your server know of your special occasion!

Not sure, I know there have been many threads about hair braiding... I am sure someone will help here! I am fairly certain that you'll need an appointment.

You can get eye patches and whole costumes at the shop on board too. They only give you the bandana.

I am pretty sure that was a one time event... one of the Panama Canal crossings? They all wanted the commemorative pin and it must have gotten out that there were limited quantities. Don't expect to have to deal with this again on DCL.

Ask away!!:cool2:

Your cruise fare includes your room, all food (including room service), onboard entertainment & activities and non-alcoholic beverages (except sodas through room service or at the bars and smoothies). Once onboard you will have to pay for spa treatments, salon services, alcoholic beverages, shore excursions, hair braiding, Palo dining ($10 per person for brunch and dinner, $5 per person for High Tea), room service tips (room service itself is free), sodas at the bars or through room service, packaged snacks/candy outside the two theaters, photos at Shutters and laundry services.

How much to get your hair braided?

$2 per braid. An average head takes about 20 braids.

They hand out bandanas. There's lots of pirate stuff available now anywhere Halloween costumes are sold (WalMart, Target, etc.)

I saw a pic of people sleeping in a pin line. What's that all about?

No idea. I've never seen that happen on a cruise. I know some people are serious about thier pins, but I don't think it will be an issue onboard.

Door decorations: Is it only the Disers that do it? How do you attach the decorations? Are the doors metal?

Do Disers meet up on every cruise?

Do Disers meet up on every cruise?

Door decorations are not very common and I do believe that most of those that have them are DISers. We haven't seen too many on our trips.

DISers do tend to meet up on every cruise. Whether you choose to join them or not is completely up to you.

I'm sure there's a thread that talks about that, though, eh?

Is there pin trading on board? Does it matter if you have pins from DL when trading at DW &/or cruise?

towel animals - do people always take one home? Is that okay?

tours - how many on-board tours are there?

No, it really is not OK to take home towel animals!!! That would be stealing towels!!! I have never heard of anyone taking them home. The animals basically fall apart with any movement...they are not sturdy. But honestly, it would be the same if you took a towel from a hotel....equals higher costs for all of us when they have to replace the towels!!!

Are you referring to ship tours or excursions? They do have ship tours the first day...it will be in your daily Navigator you get when you check in. You can check what shore excursions are available at each port by going to the DCL website.

What is the weather usually like in Nassau and Castaway Cay in November/December?

The weather in Nassau is very similar to the weather in Florida....in the fall it can be anywhere from 60-80 degrees. We were in Port Canaveral in early January and it was 40 degrees....but it was high 80's in the caribbean

I read here that some people took a towel animal home - one had permission from their...host, is it?

I was talking about ON-BOARD tours. Like ones that show desserts being made or the helm or something like that. I've seen a few pics that I *think* are from on-board tours, but I'm not sure.

...maybe it's just classes, not tours?

Can people still get to the Flying Dutchman? I saw a pic of some people standing next to it, but I also read that part of the shore has been roped off. What's the deal with all of that?

If a room steward gave someone permission to take a towel animal home I doubt that it as sanctioned by DCL...I am sure they said yes in hopes of a bigger tip but I have not heard this done on any regular basis....it would be to costly to DCL. Towel animals are made from a few towels each, not just one towel.

Galley tours and behind the scenes tours, cooking demos, etc. will be listed in your daily Naviagator as to the time and place...I do not know what days they are held...you can check some recent navigators for your itinerary to see when they are.

Sorry, I have info on current status of Flying Dutchman.....

As mmouse37 said, it is not okay to take home the towel animals. They would never survive the trip. They are very fragile and even moving them from the bed to the counter is difficult. But, again, it isn't okay to take them. It would be stealing towels.

There is no tour that shows desserts being made. There is a galley tour (at least on the 7-day...not sure about the shorter cruises), but there isn't much going on in the galley during the tour. There is also a tour the first day, to get you aclimated to the ship. On the 7-day cruise there is also a Ship Walking Tour that takes place later in the week. There used to be a bridge tour but they haven't held them since 9/11.

You could never get close to the Flying Dutchman on foot. It has always been anchored off shore. What you can do is stand on the shore with the ship in the background behind you. Perhaps that is what you saw. The only way to get close to the FD is to rent a sailboat or other watercraft on Castaway Cay. You cannot board the FD.

Crafty Mouse...on the Dutchman question from the OP I think the OP was referring to pics that were on the Dis where some cruise passengers were actually standing on a sand bar right next to the Flying Dutchman (close enough to touch!)....I think they got there with a Jet Ski but not sure...they were definitely guests and not CM's. It also most have been low tide.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I have not seen those pictures.

We just got back, and others have answered most of the questions, so I'll answer the hair-braiding question..... Plats (individual braids) are $1.00 per braid. Corn rows are $2.00 per row. I had my full head done and it was 78 braids. My 5 yo dd ended up with 45 braids. We wore them for just over 2 weeks.

I just took them out 2 days ago. I miss my braids.

In July, Christiaan the cruise director, told the audience that I was sitting in that it was not a problem if you wanted to take home your towel animal. So, if the cruise director is saying it is ok, I wouldn't consider it stealing.

I totally agree if that was said and if DCL is saying saying that it is OK...great....but in 16 DCL cruises I have never heard DCL say it was OK....this must be fairly new....personally I think it is silly to take them home as they fall apart as soon as you move them and it is just one more thing, IMO, that adds to the price of DCL going up. Can you imagine how many towels they would lose per cruise if even 1/3 of the people onboard took them home.....considering they use 2 - 3 towels per animal...

I am in no way doubting you but I am amazed and very surprised that the cruise director is giving blanket permission to take home the towel animals! I wonder how the suits back at the office feel about it!!! LOL!!!
