After 16 years its time for a new vacuum cleaner. What kind would you recommend? I would like to hear about the Dyson, but its very costly. What others are liked and work well? Thanks
Lori
I want to know what kind of vacuum you have that lasted 16 years. I think the longest a vacuum has ever lasted in this house is 2 years. On average though we go through a vacuum a year.
My parents have a commercial-duty Royal vacuum that's worked wonderfully for at least 8 years. I'm not sure of the exact model #, but the M1028 looks like the same unit. (do a google search for Royal M1028 and you'll find lots of places selling it)
I have a Hoover and I recently read a review online (of course I can't find it now) that it actually does better than a Dyson on regular pick up. I currently have a Hoover and am very happy with it. I wanted one with all the attachments so I didn't have to switch from one type to another just to get the sofa and the like. I also wanted a bagless one (bad history here with bags... don't ask ) so the Hoover wind tunnel fit the bill perfectly! My dad currently has 2 Hoovers at his house... one is older than I am but still runs, the other one has to be about 15 years at least by now and is in good working order. So even though I love the Dyson, I will probably stick with Hoover for a long time.
When I was younger I worked for Sears selling vacuums....definitely go with Hoover. The Kenmores are good...but Hoover is still the best of all the models they sell.
HAHA, My vacuum that lasted 16 years is a Kenmore, and it still runs, but I gover stuff and it doesn't pick alot up. But i don't want a Kenmore, any -more with the Hoover wind tunnel? Thats the one im kind of leaning towards. Lori
I have a dirt devil bagless that I bought at Wal-mart for around $100. We have a toddler and a very large long haired cat that sheds constantly. It works like a dream and we have had it for over a year now. I love the bagless style, if you start losing the "pick-up" power just empty the cup. Also mine has a HEPA filter, I don't think I would have a vaccum without one now that I have had one. ~KPmomk
We got a Dyson since it does not loose any suction power even if it is full and the filters don't have to be changed just cleaned. The only two things I don't like much is one...it is not "power driven" like some others are like easy to push. The second was the price. I like it otherwise!
