I need a new vaccum cleaner. I have carpet and linoleum. I would like to have something with attachments. So many to choose from (bag, bagless...). Which do you prefer? Thanks in advance!

I prefer bagless - that way you don't have to worry about did DH get the right bag or do we have any more because this one is full & company is coming in 10 minutes

For me personally, I like Electrolux (under the Aerus name - www.aerusonline.com). My mom has always had one and I like the way they work. However, they are expensive and usually available through a franchise store.

I got an Oreck XL Platinum about 4 years ago and still think its the greatest!:thumbsup2

I have an Oreck, a Dyson and a Shark. Hate the Oreck - no attachments, uses bags, and it doesn't clean very well IMO. Love the Dyson. The Shark does as good a job as the Dyson, but the dust cup is small.

We are a Riccar family now. Had an Oreck canister in first house. It worked really well, but they didn't seem to stock parts past 5 years. So, why buy a vacuum you can't fix after 5 years.

We tried the Dyson. It worked okay, but was very loud and didn't like how you had to manipulate the on-board hose and attachments.

We have a Riccar canister downstairs and it works like a charm. Recently got an upright for upstairs with on board attachments. I like it as much as I do the canister, plus it is fairly quiet.

Love my Dyson except for the attachments.
