Vaccine passport and non-US visitors

I've been reading everything I can get my hands on as we are arriving on Sept 30 for 10 days. I am fully vaccinated here in Canada with Pfizer and am seeing this on the Safe Access Oahu page (I added the red box):

Doesn't this indicate that there will be some flexibility regarding those having hard copy records of being fully vaccinated with an FDA approved vaccine like Pfizer? It sounds like it will be at the discretion of the establishment?

Oh my goodness, this has literally changed since earlier today!! I still had the tab open on my computer and this is what it said:

“Proof of a US FDA or US FDA EUA approved vaccination administered outside the United States is not accepted for patrons/customers.”

I took a picture but I’m not sure how to post it. It looks like they've Completely changed it on the website now because now I see what you’ve posted!! This seems like amazing news!!!

That is 100% updated language from what was there when I posted this thread - and GOOD! The prior version specifically stated that a record of vaccinations administered outside of the US was not proof. This update is so much more logical!

looking at the actual emergency order it doesn’t specify that vaccines have to be administered in the US - it just says they have to be FDA approved. So maybe the Safe Oahu guidelines had to get walked back because they went farther then the emergency order itself.

Well, then things are starting to make more sense for me too as when I first started researching, everything I ‘thought’ I was reading all pointed to the fact that we would definitely have to get testing done every 48 hours regardless of our vaccine status. I sat my husband down to explain what I found and we said we’d think about if we need to cancel or not. I called Aulani to check on the cancellation policy and it’s been updated from 30 days to 5 days grace time before your reservation.

Where is the emergency order and what is that for specifically? Because they still don't count Canadian vaccinations to exempt you from testing before you fly to Hawaii, right?

ETA - never mind, I was able to find the emergency order!

That’s new! When the program was originally announced, the same site said that it was NOT acceptable for patrons. So glad to see that this is still in flux and accommodations are being made. Now we only have to solve the AZ/mixed dose issue! 🙄

Right! The CDC now says they are ok with 2 shots of AZ and Moderna/Pfizer combos, so hopefully the states will catch up.

I have found this to be the most comprehensive and meticulously updated source of current Hawaii travel info, with lots of info on COVID and vaccine protocols for each island, lists of what restaurants and attractions are open/closed, etc. This may help answer lots of your questions.

There is an email address on the Safe Access Oahu website re any questions/concerns. I sent an email this morning respectfully requesting that Oahu consider accepting proof of vaccination from visitors outside of the US who have received two doses of AstraZeneca as acceptable proof of vaccination under the Safe Access Oahu program, given the number of Canadians (and United Kingdom and Japanese) residents who have received the AstraZeneca vaccine, and the US CDC’s position that individuals who have received two doses of AstraZeneca are considered “fully vaccinated” two weeks after receiving the second dose. If anyone else would like to raise similar concerns, the address is:

Do they give you a covid passport in Canada? I know the border was shut down to Canada last year to US visitors regardless of your covid vaccine status.

We don’t yet have vaccine passports but that’s in the works. We do receive official confirmations of our doses from the govt.

Right now vaccine passports exist on a provincial level and only some provinces are doing it. I'm in Vancouver BC and our vaccine passport comes into affect this Monday the 13. If you travel from outside of the province or even outside of the country you just need to provide proof and you WILL be allowed to enter businesses that are asking for vaccine passports.

Unreal how devastating covid is. So many lives changed and lost. Does coming from Canada into the US require vaccine passport?

Yes, if you are over 16 you need a passport to enter the US. This has been the rule for a very long time. If you are driving you can use enhanced drivers licence (we just use a passport). Nexus as well (again we don't ha e Nexus).

Sorry I meant a vaccine passport.

We are definitely actively thinking about cancelling our early Feb. trip. We are interested in all the details concerning how the Oahu program impacts our group (double AZ and mixed AZ/Pfizer) but what is telling for us is that Governor has requested that people don’t come for non-essential reasons (at least for next month or two I believe). We are not convinced the COVID situation will improve dramatically over next few months so we are not expecting that rules will change to be more accommodating. They are basically asking tourists to stay away. Hope we are wrong.

Oh lol No at this time there are no rules in place for a Canadian entering the US re:vaccine status. We have been able to enter the US via air this entire time, it's just the land border that is closed. Coming into Canada, however, all US visitors must be fully vaccinated.

In Alberta we don't have anything looking like a vaccine passport but I think BC is just starting with theirs this week?

We are trying to decipher the wording in the new rules starting on Monday to see if our official (provincial) records for those doubly vaccinated - at least with an approved vaccine - will suffice as proof for being able to use restaurants etc. as of Monday Sept. 13.

I was one of those with the Astra Zeneca/Pfizer combo but Alberta started offering a booster Pfizer for us this week so I'm now a AZ/Pfizer/Pfizer expressly for traveling purposes. I'd love to have a vaccine passport available to us in AB but I'm even more happy that they made a second Pfizer available for us who were combo vaxxed.

I agree that it is pretty clear that the official stance is that they don't want visitors to come right now and they won't be bending over backwards to be more inclusive with those that don't meet the criteria. I am grateful for flexible cancellation policies right now...

We called Aulani last night and spoke with a manager. As long as you have received a vaccination approved in the US, have the paperwork, passport, etc that is in englishnyou can eat in their restaurants. Obviousl, this might be Aulani only, but we really double checked.
