I've been waiting for months for a 2 bedroom to open up at one of a half dozen resorts on getravelop for jan 15 or 16. it's now only 2 weeks away, and i still haven't found one i want. :sad2:

i'm really starting to worry that nothing will ever open, and am considering taking what i've found, the smaller one bedroom at vacation village at parkway.

the resort's web page lists the kitchen as

"Fully appointed kitchen equipped with dishwasher, range, coffee maker, toaster, ice maker, full-size refrigerator and microwave convection oven in suite A; many appointments also featured in suite B kitchen."

Anyone know what this means? how big will the fridge be? (bigger than dorm size?) will there be pots/pans, dishes, utensils, a cooktop and microwave?

thanks for your help. i've actually got it reserved until tonight, so any advice you can give before then will be greatly appreciated.

thx,
dj

I don't know for sure - but I am betting it has the same stuff a studio does - microwave, under-the-counter refrigerator, wet bar, toaster, coffee machine.

the layout does not look it contains an oven or stove. generally these also have a washing machine - studio DO NOT.

The DISer Photobearsam has stayed at this resort...maybe she'll post or you could try to PM her. Good Luck!

The floor plan for both units can be found at:

http://www.dailymanagementresorts.com/parkway.htm

Keep in mind that there is a builders convention from 1/13 through 1/16 that draws over 100,000 attendees. Lodging may be tight until 1/16.

There is a one bedroom unit at Silver Lake Resort for 1/16 listed now on the Ready-Set-Go auctions at Skyauction. It has a jacuzzi, full kitchen and washer / dryer. The location is fantastic.

The smaller 1 bdrm has a convection/microwave but no stove. It comes with pots pan, utensils, glasses, etc. The refrigerator is full size. The 2 times I have stayed there, there were a washer and dryer in the closet bathroom. I read not all units have them. Hope this helps.

We stayed there a few years ago in the smaller suite. I can't recall all the details but I'm pretty sure it had a full kitchen. I know it had a full size fridge, all the pots, pans, etc you need. I seem to recall the micro/convection oven. There was a full kitchen table but not a big eating area. Nice size livingroom area and very nice bedroom. We saw the bigger suite as well which was pretty much the same but abit bigger all around. We stayed there with 2 younger teens and we were fine space wise. I loved being able to sit on the balcony and watch the kids. It was very clean, we had no complaints at all.

I checked the pics that bearzabout posted (the link), its accurate.

I wouldn't give up just yet. The last two times I won from Ready Set Go Skyauction I found a great place with less than a week to spare. Recently, I got a two bedroom at Silver Lake only 7 days out. A few months ago, I grabbed a newly redecorated three bedroom unit at Cypress Pointe that was posted only 4 days before arrival.

Check very often (once an hour at least if possible). I can't believe how quickly the inventory changes and how quickly good units are reserved.

You may want to consider winning an auction before the ideal unit comes up and hope for the best. Just reserve a unit after winning the auction and it will be yours.

Thanks!

I slept a LOT better New Years Eve thinking about what you said about last minute deals might still be popping up.

Then, I realized that I didn't really want to spend the next few days checking the internet constantly for something to open, as i had been for days, especially since it'd be our first time using getravelop and first tme users w/o an account number have to call in to reserve. several times already i'd found what i wanted only to have it disappear in the three minutes it took to place the call!!

so when GETRAVELOP opened their phone lines yesterday morning, I took a 1BR at Vacation Village at Parkway with a full kitchen. It is from Friday to friday, so we'll only get to use it for 6 nights, but i felt so much better knowing things were settled and it was great to get a bunch of things done yesterday that wouldn't have happened if i'd been tied to the computer.

the unofficial guide rates VV at P 4 1/2 stars, and the commute times are very short, plus lots of posters have said it's nice, so i'm feeling pretty good.

this means two nights at POP instead of one, but that's worth the extra $$ and it means we'll quailfy for a MK EMH! and the whole deal (including $48 for parking for 6 days) is still $71 less than staying the whole time at POP! i just don't think i'm cut out for this last minute stuff!

and i'm NOT going to visit getravelop or sky auction again, for this trip anyway. i don't want to know what would or wouldn't have opened up if i'd have waited longer!!!

Anyway, thanks again, everyone, for all your advice.

have u tried skyauction

I think you'll be fine, DJ. The only reason we didn't stay there again was that we wanted 2 bedrooms this time. I'n not sure how old your kids are but ours were old enough to go to the pool on their own.... the one thing I really liked was I could talk to them from the balcony while they were there...ok, talk loudly because we were on the 3rd floor, lol.

For those of you who have stayed at VV...regarding the laundry situation...their website mentions that washer/dryers are available on each floor (I guess for those who don't have them in their units). How many machines? Has anyone had any experience with this? We've had w/d in our resort units the past couple of years and it has been extremely convenient. Also, if we were able to reserve one "A" and one "B" unit independently for the same dates (like through Skyauction and/or AFVC, which is like Getravelop), what might be our chances of linking the 2 reservations and getting attached units? Has anyone ever done this? Thanks for any info! :D

To local girl:

Call the resort and see if your reservation is in the system yet. If so, you can make your request. Skyauction says they notify the resort about 3 days before a person's check in date. Your reservation service may be similar and you may need to wait but I would call to check. As soon as they receive your reservation, you can make requests so the person who assigns rooms knows your situation.

When you call, ask about the laundry. I was curious about this myself. Cypress Pointe charge $1/load for the units used by those who don't have washers in the room. At Kingstown Reef, there were two washers and dryers on each floor that were free.

bearzabout,

Thank you for the ideas...sorry my post was confusing in that we don't have a current reservation at VV. I saw that both the A and B units were available for our dates (now I don't see it!) either on AFVC or Skyauction and wondered if we could tie separate reservations together if we went that route. I'd hate for my MIL to end up in a different part of the resort...anyway, this is just another option of several that we're considering!

occasionally (but not often) on getravelop i've seen VV@P come up as a 2 bedroom. That would be great for you! What month are you traveling?

dj,

My dh is retired military which enables us to use the Armed Forces Vacation Club website, which accesses the same inventory as Getravelop. I check the AFVC site a couple of times a day looking for what we need, LOL! Both sites offer really great deals, though I've noticed the better resorts that were available over the last couple of years are very rarely coming up now. We are planning on a couple of weeks in Dec.'05, probably beginning on 12/18. It's possible that we'll be able to find a week on AFVC or Skyauction for the first week, though I doubt anything will come up for Christmas week. I really wish we could go at a different time, but due to work and school schedules, this seems to be best for us.

Local Girl

I actually have a list on my hard drive of properties that were available through getravelop december 2004 that i'd copied in 9/04 (so i could do research into the different resorts). there are many properties that sleep even up to 12 guests! but the lastest check-in date was 12/12. i think you're right, it's going to be tough to find a space-a reservation over christmas break. look at all the trouble i had over MLK weekend!

just curious, but wouldn't retired military qualify for getravelop as well as AFVC? probably doesn't matter, since i'm pretty sure they pull from the same pool. actually, i also noticed a very strong correllation between the RSG on skyauction and the getravelop list. often when something would pop up on one, it would pop up on the other, too. same for when it would disappear.

i wish you the best of luck finding a really nice place at a terrific rate!

thanks for all your help.
