Just got an email from vacation strategy offering deals at BLT, AKV, SSR and more for 1 and 2 bedrooms, prices are pretty good, 1799 for one week in a one bedroom at BLT.

If anyone wants more details let me know!

What are the dates?

This deal seems great, does anyone have any experience booking with them? I would be interested to hear peoples experience, thanks!

If they are making an RCI trade into Disney with RCI points, you might get burned. Especially if they tell you you must pay a $95 fee when you arrive a the DVC resort. It is illegal by RCI and DVC to rent out an RCI trade. RCI can and has cancelled those type reservations.

It does seem like a great deal but also seems a bit fishy! Or maybe when they say one bedroom, they really mean studio? For example, the "one bedroom" at VWL is only $1799 for 7 nights mid April, which if a true 1 bedroom villa equates to just over $5/point. That just seems extremely unlikely to me!

ETA: it seems they are Wyndham owners, so would that exchange be the same as through RCI?

I spoke to Jeff over the phone today and he said there is no fee at the resort. He sent me the RCI confirmation details with the reservation number for the unit and dates. How else would I find out if there was a problem?? He mentioned they did a number of these last year too.

The problem is that if RCI finds out a member is renting an exchange reservation, they can and will cancel the reservation. You will be out money and have no room!

Not only will you be out the money, with no room -- you will have already paid for airfare that you probably won't be able to use as there probably won't be any acceptable rooms on property available. But, for me, worst of all would be having to explain to the travel party, especially the kids, that the trip they have been anxiously awaiting -- ain't happening.

Plus it sounds pretty commercial based on their website which DVC does not allow either.

Exactly. A coworker of mine had that happen to him.

I'm confused, what's the difference between this and David's DVC rentals?

David's is a broker that gets DVC owners together with people who want to rent their points to stay at a DVC resort. This is allowed.

For a small fee an RCI owner can trade in their RCI points and stay at a DVC resort. This is allowed.

What is not allowed is an RCI owner trading their RCI points into a DVC resort and then renting that stay to someone else for $$. If RCI finds out, they will cancel the reservation.

To expand a bit more on dansdad's fine explanation....

A common feature of timeshares is the ability to trade the use of your timeshare for a stay in another timeshare. This is called 'exchanging'. There are various companies that facilitate these exchanges between timeshares.

DVC uses RCI (Resort Condominiums International) to manage exchanges. So, for example, as a DVC member, I can use my points to 'trade out' to one of a number of other timeshares that partner with RCI, like, for example, Hilton's timeshare at Hilton Hawaiian Village.

It works the other way around, too. Owners of other timeshares that partner with RCI can trade into DVC.

What this company appears to be doing is reselling reservations that owners of other RCI timeshares have made at DVC resorts. RCI rules don't permit this, they do periodic checks for these resold reservations, and they cancel them if they find them. They don't find them all, but they do find some.

DVC by Request (David's company) only works with DVC owners, who are making reservations with their own points at DVC resorts. There's no exchanging involved, and DVC's contract with its owners specifically allows this.

Thank you so much for explaining!! Does David's match you up with a DVC owner who is renting their points, or does David buy them from DVC owners and then make the reservation under his name?

He does not buy the points. He helps match up owners who want to rent out points with renters who want to rent them. So you let him know what you want (6 nights BLT in a one bedroom) and he attempts to match you up with an owner who can book that for you. The owner will be doing the booking but can put your name on the reservation and you can use mydisneyexperience. Owners can book the dining plan for you but you will probably have to provide a cc no.

I am sure I am leaving things out but this is a completely legitimate practice.

Oh my gosh. Thanks for the info. I called VS because I got the same e mail. I was very interested in booking, as we have used them at Bonnet Creek and had no isssues. Is there a way to find out if what they are doing is legit. I would hate to lose my vacation. Also, if you go the DVC route, can you do fastpass + ?

I don't think there is a question....they state very clearly on the website they are using RCI to book, do they not? Is so, it is not legit. Now, that's not to say you won't get away with it and have a perfectly nice vacation. However, I wouldn't take the chance. But, yes, you get MB and FP+ with DVC.
