Ok, so I'm coming to the best of the best and asking your advice! This summer I'm taking the family to Bermuda for a 4 night trip. :beach:

We're staying at the Southhampton Fairmount and I LOVE Bermuda. However I've never actually stayed there. I've only done cruises with multiple days on the island. I have never really had to do meals there and I know it's super expensive to eat there.

Believe it or not this trip was actually the cheaper option for us with airfare etc.. but I still don't like to waste money. My plan is to check a bag. (free bag with united credit card) and fill it with snacks/water bottles etc.. If I could get away with lunch stuff and or light breakfast stuff I'd love it!

I'd love ideas from my fellow dis'ers as to what kinds of snacks/food to pack that would travel well. Any ideas would be appreciated! :)
BTW, my family is me, DH, DD (18) and DS (16) no picky eaters no allergies! :)
Thanks in advance! :)

Personally, I wouldn't take water bottles. If you've ever seen how the baggage handlers throw around luggage (and frankly, they have very little time so it's not really their fault)--you don't want bottles breaking open or bursting in your bag.

We take Bobble bottles with us on trips. As long as the water in Bermuda is safe to drink--and I think it is??--just bring a Bobble for each person and refill as needed. They work great; they even filter that nasty sulfur taste out of Disney water! It will save you a ton of weight in your bag and free up more room. They sell them at Old Navy, so just keep an eye out for sales. I have gotten all of ours when they have the 'entire store at 40% off sale'.

I use a large Tupperware container and put all our snacks into there in individual plastic baggies--things like goldfish crackers because my kids are younger. I pack cereal in individual bags for each day, and also put in granola bars, rice krispie treats, etc. I do this for all of our travel baseball tournaments and although I haven't done it for airline travel yet, I will be when we go this December b/c we will have a full kitchen for the first time.

we tend to pack a hard sided suitcase with food/snacks if we get a free checked bag. I make sure that everything small (or crushable) is contained in a plastic box as well since TSA often opens bags and I don't want everything to spill out if they do.

do you not worry about the food being exposed to bugs/ and other chemicals inthe pit of the plane?? I have never put food in checked only carry on! and we alway then just make a grocery store run/stop if need be.
Just wondering?

Bearloch- what do you think is going on down there? :) She's wrapping it in plastic, and honestly there are probably lower odds of bugs on a plane than in a house.

We packed 2 large suitcases filled with food and kitchen extras on our last trip to Disney, because I HATE that dreaded trip to Walmart when we arrive in Florida. These were transported my the Magical Express, not sure I would have don't this if I had to transport them myself.
I'd rather use my non-vacation time in Walmart.
Then, when we arrived I only had to buy perishables.

I just fit everything in there like a jenga puzzle. Boxes of cereal, Pop-Tarts some minor kitchen supplies, boxes of pancake mix and syrup.

We were mainly concerned with breakfast.

Have a great trip!

I like to take disposable cups (because I worry how clean the glass-glasses are in the hotel rooms) paper plates and towels, and a few pieces of plastic ware.

As far as snack stuff we like nuts or trail mixes, m&m's, twizzlers, bagel chips with cheese spread and danish or granola bars. We do a grocery stop once we're there, but some of these items will travel well.

No I don't.

And everything we bring is closed up in it's original packaging or sealed in ziplocs and plastic boxes so that doesn't really offer up much to any bugs.
:confused3

The worst that has happened is that we've had the plastic boxes cracked. But that's not a big deal.

Check the island's laws regarding food products that can be brought into the country. They will confiscate (and fine you) for anything that is not permitted to be brought in. Fresh fruits and meats are especially high on every country's lists but some of the islands are even more strict as to what can be brought in.

We tried the Bobble water bottles, and ended up returning them? We followed all the directions and no matter what we did we had a gritty substance in our mouth? The sales clerk at Best Buy where we bought them for $10 said alot of them have been returned for the same reason! Its a charcoal filter that is malfunctioning? So buyer beware!

We had to rinse ours out with 5 full bottles to get the water to clear. No problems after that.

We've been using them for 2 years now (new filters every once in a while) and love them!

An airplane, with its extreme changes in temperature, probably had a lot fewer bugs than a home, if any at all.

I was just wondeing cause I have had tsa notes in my luggage all the time that they opened andsearched the bag. just wondering like I said just put a little in carryon then have the room for return trip goodies! lol
