Vacation rental homes in walking distance?

Anyone rented a vacation home or apartment withinh walking distance of the park? Any recommendations or ones we should avoid? We have a group of six, and motels are costing about as much as many of the vacation rentals I see, so I'd like to consider the option (and I know we'd like the extra space and kitchen facilities).

I've stayed at two vacation rental homes...one south of Katella, near 9th St and the other just south of Ball to the west of Walnut. Both had their pros and cons. In general, I think as long as travel in groups (at least two adults, more is better), you're probably okay at either location. I marginally like the walk back to the house south of Katella more late at night because the parking structure was along the walk to the other house and the structure felt very dark and looming and it wasn't all that busy in the area. If you know you're going to be coming back after dark and by yourself, I would consider driving.

We LOVE Walt's Place! It's right across the street from Disneyland Hotel and you spend a majority of your 10 minute walk in Downtown Disney. The owners are incredible and we will happily book there whenever traveling with a larger group! We're actually sad we won't be there on our trip next week, but with only 2 adults and 2 kids it's too expensive.3

Thanks, guys! Figment, which places did you stay at? Would you recommend?

Any of the condos in the development off Walnut across from Magic Way would be convenient. We are staying there for our upcoming half marathon weekend trip. Just go to VRBO and search by map - then you can see exactly where everything is. There are also some houses in that area but just a little further towards the convention centre or freeway if you wanted your own pool etc. As I mentioned, we haven't stayed yet, but everything has gone smoothly so far (including small changes with our dates) and the owners have been very friendly and helpful. We're staying in one of the 'Enchanted' condos - the Enchanted Cabana I think it's called - but they have 3 in that development and another actual house a bit further away.

When we were looking for a place to stay, we got stuck on "walking distance" as a criterion. It's not like the decision between staying on and off property in terms of time losses and access. While hopping in a car definitely takes more planning, time wise it can be a wash, especially when you aren't looking forward to those extra steps after a full day in the park. The Pepperwood condos across Walnut are the closest. Looking at the VRBO map, there are tons of properties with 5 min of M&F. If you have other criteria you are concerned about besides proximity, let me know.

We are flying so would have to have to rent a car just for getting back and forth to the parks-plus pay for parking. :). Good point though!

One of the huge advantages of staying at a vacation rental is the kitchen. We tend to want to eat in the more relaxed environment. You'll need the car for groceries and to take advantage of all the great Mexican food in the area. We also tend to have a car because we allot time for things away from the park, but that may not be your vacation.

-edit- another option is the ART bus. There are lots of properties within walking distance of stops.

We just have our groceries delivered through Vons. We opt to skip a rental vehicle cause we stick mostly with Disney.
