Because DDs spent spring break with their dad and took a trip out West, I took a solo trip down the East Coast, ending up at VWL and BCV for most of a week. Telling myself that I would have 3 weeks this summer when both DDs are away at camp, and I could clean out closets, wash windows, polish silver, etc - all the things I never have time to do but really need doing at my house! I had a great trip, but -

Now I'm thinking - boy, three weeks is a long time to clean out closets by myself! Wonder if I could just sneak away for a few days and use the last of this year's points at Hiton Head? Or, if no availability (I know I'd have to go on a waitlist and hope for the best) why not just head down to Florida again?

This is not really the mature decision I should be making, but, boy, do I want to go!!!! Someone talk me out of it, or help me justify!!!!

When everyone IS home, split those chores up amoung you all and then you can take some time for yourself as well!

Everyone deserves down time! I think parents (flame me here - but especially moms) are the WORST at not taking time for ourselves! I am not sure how old your daughters are, but cleaning out closets is something they can certainly help with! Hubby too! Go - enjoy yourself. Come back refreshed and tackle those projects you enjoy doing and ask for assistance with the rest.

lllovell - I love your post because it makes me sound like such a busy, stressed mom and it's therefore wonderfully easy for me to justify this all to myself!!!! The facts are, however:

No hubby (ex - sorry I wasn't clear about WHY DDs were on a trip without me over spring break!!!)

These cleaning jobs I've been putting off aren't exactly DD helpable, if you know what I mean. They mostly involve decisions about things I stored from my mother's house when she died several years ago, or old things in the attic. I know DDs would help if I asked, but then I would have to listen to, "You can't throw that away - it was Nana's!" and really, I have to make those decisions myself. I can't keep every single Tupperware container just because Nana used to store the macaroni and cheese in it!!

For now, I'm a stay at home mom with school-age children, so if I were better organized and didn't spend so much time on the computer, I'd have finished these chores long ago. I just keep putting them off, and I had told myself that if I traveled at spring break, I couldn't go again while the girls were away!!!!

But thank you for the support - and the girls ARE cleaning out their closets - I am cracking the whip upstairs and you should see the fur fly!! You wouldn't believe how many times this past weekend I heard, "Hey, Mom, guess what I found in my room?" !!!!!!!

Well, 3 weeks is a long time, and why don't you take a break for 1 of them and enjoy yourself. HH or WDW? Either sounds great to me, but I would pick HH! I would be aching for a walk on the beach after the work of going through dear mom's things. The ocean would be a balm for the pain I know I would be feeling.

Bobbi :flower:

Now, Bobbi, that made me cry a little - what a very sweet thing to say!!! And I think I will do it, if the waitlist comes through - even for a night or two. And then I will make myself clean before I go....that will be my incentive!

If not, we are going to HH for family vacation later in the summer, so I will still look forward to it.

NO NO NO MOM!! You STILL deserve it!!!! :) When do you get a chance to go places without your girls and truly unwind? I see exactly what you mean about needing to do some of those chores yourself (I have to do things like that without hubby around or else I don't get to toss anything), but I really like your plan of doing some of it and also giving yourself a break.

Oh, and you aren't fooling me saying you aren't busy! :earsgirl: You are a mother. A stay at home mom to boot. ppfftttt You are busy! (I am a working mom, one sister is a stay at home mom, and I could not being to say that she doesn't work as hard as I - - - I am about to hire a housekeeper just so I can spend more time doig "fun" things on the weekends rather than trying to keep up with the mopping, laundry, scrubbing tubs, etc.)

Aaahhh, lllovell, excellent enabling!!!!!! Exactly the justification I needed to hear!!! And because I thought to myself, "Now why can't you go get started on that right now and work on it for an hour before the girls get home?" I have actually opened a closet and looked in it. Not exactly cleaning I know, but more of a glimpse to see what my game plan will be. Also I rearranged a bookshelf and I will have some books to donate to my local library sale soon, so that is progress as well. Many thanks - now let's hope that waitlist comes through!!!

And darn this DVC - if I had to actually PAY for this I wouldn't do it. But there those points are, burning a hole in my pocket, and with HH within an easy driving distance (if I don't think about the gas cost!!) and a few groceries, it's practically free!!
