Vacation off to Bad Start at Caribbean Beach

That first night I pay full price for the room yet w/ checking in at 3 pm I have access to the room for less than a full day.

A "full day" for a 1-night stay is only 3PM to 11AM, in any event, if someone is able to check in at the first possible instant and checks out at the last.

I am so sorry! We can all understand that they are scrambling because they are probably overbooked, but bad costumer service is just unacceptable. I would have requested to talk to the manager. Hopefully everything got fix and you have a magical vacation from now on.

For all those wondering check in time is not a guarantee just like the ADR read the fine print. With that being said it is just absolutely unacceptable the treatment op received.

Quick sort of off-topic question. I thought all Disney resorts were non-smoking? I can understand that you might have guests who ignore the rules in this regard (although I really hope they are charged for cleaning costs), but does Disney still offer smoking rooms?

No they do not.

Definitely don't accept the room. We got a smoking room at CSR a few years ago, they brought ionizers to get the smoke out but it never went away the whole trip and all of our stuff stunk.
I called and they said they would send housekeeping to spray. Someone came and now it smells like smoke and flowers.

We are still in the room tonight because I didn't want to spend my family's day waiting for a room.

I'm not typically a complainer. I am a go along get along kind of person. Probably should stand up a little more for what I want.

Room smell is unpleasant, but as hard as it was to get a room I booked, it seemed so much effort and time to get another one.

Resort is beautiful and had a nice dinner at Shutters.

Now off to spray some perfume on my wrist and keep it close...

Nothing magical about rooms being available by check in when they have been booked for nearly a year. It's hardly pixie dust to get a room you booked by 3.

I disagree with this. Check-in is at 3; rooms should magically be ready by that time. If check-in truly "begins" at 3, then rooms could be held until midnight, which definitely wouldn't be cool.

Rooms are actually held until 6 AM the following day. Guests who expect check-in to be AT 3 PM need to all be at the Front Desk AT exactly 3 PM checking in. It's a two way street.

That really stinks (no pun intended.) I know the feeling of being exhausted and not wanting to deal with the hassle anymore, to the point of just accepting the situation. But maybe you can take it up with them tomorrow when you're more rested.

We had a similar start to our stay at CBR in April. We were also assigned to a room with a very strong odor which I thought to be smoke in Martinique. Housekeeping assured us it was NOT smoke, it was mildew and mold. I did get us moved to Jamaica but it was a rough start to the vacation. Midway into the trip, our Jamaica room had a funky odor when AC was on. By the end of the trip we were all sick. I did e-mail guest relations and had a call back after we returned home. Sadly, it sounds like nothing has been done about the mildew odors in the rooms. We liked many aspects of the resort but we won't stay there again due to this ongoing issue as well as the layout with the main desk so far from everything.

I would demand a resort change-I could NOT have stayed in that room they assigned us in Martinique. We loved the location of it and tried to stay but after an hour our heads were pounding. If that is the only option for a room at CBR ask to moved-maybe over to French Quarter or Riverside. Good luck-I hope you are able to switch.

When check in at tgre

When check in is at three and the room is not ready and it takes thirty minutes to find out where the room might be, that is lack of service to me. Certainly not what I am used to at Disney. I get that the rooms are not guaranteed until five, but good service would mean that rooms are ready by check in time.

Just got to our room in Martinique and it reeks of smoke.

CBR use to be our favorite resort but after the last stay there it is no longer due to cigarette smoke getting into the room. People would smoke outside their room and the smoke would get into the rooms thru the AC unit and gap under the door. We now only stay at the deluxe resorts.

Oh, silly. It's not smoke...just mildew and mold!!!:crazy2:

We had that very issue at CBR, which is one of the reasons it's at the bottom of our resort list. Yuck.

Probably the same terrible room we had last year

I am so sorry you are going through this, sounds exactly like what happened to us. The smell never goes away!
It was terrible. Had to wash everything 3 times when we got home and still our luggage was ruined. I am not putting up with it this year if we have the same experience

Are you by the parking lot? Our friends room in Martinique reeked so badly of smoke this year I could have sworn they were smoking it the room. Apparently they were near a smoking area. I could not have stranded that. I think they were in 26 on the corner closest to the bus stop. It lasted the whole trip so I would definitely switch rooms now.

I think the "smoking room" comment was an autocorrect.

Get a new room and don't wait around for it. I hope you told them this morning that it's unacceptable and unhealthy, that you got your stuff packed and left with bell services, and that you've gone about your day while they get a new room for you.

There is no reason to have a gross room and NO reason to spend the day waiting for a room.

Housekeeping assured us it was NOT smoke, it was mildew and mold.

From bad to worse! That's hilarious of them.

Sometimes it is frustrating to have to explain that it's not just that something has an unpleasant smell that needs to be masked by air spray, but breathing this type of air is difficult with asthma and may trigger an attack then you can't breath.

And it's bizarre that some peoples' lungs are so un-sensitive that they think it's any sort of solution. I used to think I was messed up for being sensitive, but now I think I am what should be normal, and that there's something wrong with the others whose sensitivity to things like that is diminished.

I have asthma that only acts up when triggered by allergies, a bad cold or smoke. I am not a complainer and can look past things but that is something I would be all over. I would have packed my stuff and went back to the front desk with all of my belongings and my inhaler in my hand.

I've stayed at CBR and both times had lovely experiences. Sorry your trip isn't going off as planned.
