At least for the next 10 years we are tied to vacationing primarily from mid-June through mid- August. I am still trying to figure out what the best UY would be then. I have read that you can't reserve until you have the points so for 11 months out a Aug/Sept UY would be best, but on the other hand if you had to cancel you wouldn't have much time to reschedule before losing your points. So I am asking you all who have been doing this for awhile
1. In your opinion when would be the best UY?
2. If you have a March for example UY can you book in July for a vacation requiring 185 points the following June if you have 100 points banked and would be getting another 100 points before the vacation happens or would you have to wait until March to book with all 200 points?

This is the one part that is not very clear to me. :confused3

P.S. I tried searching for this answer but I couldn't get search to work

Your getting the UY confused with and tied into the 11 month booking which is causing your confusion.

Don't worry about the 11 months and whether or not you will have the points or not because you can borrow or bank points from one year to the next.

The best UY for June-August travel is a June UY. Your points will become available as of 6/1/xx but you could borrow from the future period if you had to. You would be able to book ressies beginning in July of the previous year whether or not you have those points at the time of making the ressie.

The main reason for having a June UY is if you have to cancel the ressie. With a June UY if you cancel, then you have until the end of the following May to use those points. If you had an August UY and you had to cancel a June ressie, you risk losing those points cause they may have to be used by the end of July depending upon the points year involved.

Generally, you want the UY to be just prior to when you want to travel and since points become available on the 1st of the month, a June UY is best for travel from 6/1-8/30. If June is not available, then the next closest month b/4 June is best.

If what you say is true and I have a June UY then if I had a 100 banked points from 2006 and I want to use 2007 and borrow 2008 points how would that work? When could I make reservations. I would prefer not to have to borrow points every time I want to make a reservation. Everyone keeps saying it is possible with banking and borrowing to use 3 years of points. How could I do that with a 100 point contract?

in 2006 you bank your points to 2007

I am assuming a 2-bedroom at SSR - 180 points for 5 nights - you don't need to borrow... You have 200 points for 2007.

try again - 2-bedroom at SSR - 248 points for 6 nights - so when you make the reservation (July, 2006) you borrow 48 points from 2008... for your reservation in July, 2007.

OK spicey.
2-bedroom at SSR - 248 points for 6 nights - so when you make the reservation (July, 2006) you borrow 48 points from 2008... for your reservation in July, 2007.
Assuming a June UY if I wanted to make a reservation for a 2 bedroom at SSR for 248 points for June 2007. I bank 100 2006 points, which makes them 2007 points. Then I can make a reservation July 2006 using all my 2006 + 2007 + borrow 48 from 2008. Is this correct? So I could make a reservation with 148 points that haven't been put into my account. And if not if I can't make a reservation until July 2007 for a June 2008 vacation wouldn't the 100 banked points from 2006 and the 2007 points expire in May 2008 ? Am I making this too complicated?

Booking: simplified thought process:

1. You can always book 11 months in advance; use year is irrelevant.

2. Your "current" use year points for any trip are those in the use year during which your trip takes place not the date you book. You can borrow from the subsequent use year and use any banked points from the one prior to that "current" year. Example: February use year. It is now July and you still have all your points issued Feb 06. You want to go June 2007. You call now 11 months out, bank all those Feb 06 points so they can be used for that June 07 trip, you can also use all the Feb 07 points which will be "current" use year points for that trip; you can also borrow all your points that you would get in Feb 08 and use them for that June 07 trip. In other words, when trying to figure out which points you are using for a trip always look at when you are going to be there, not when you book.

Thank you. That is exactly what I was thinking but others had me confused because I kept reading that you can't book with points that haven't already been placed in your account. That was were my hang up was in the thought process.
