I'm thinking of taking advantage of the discounts going on in September. I'm a little concerned since this is prime hurricane time and I remember last year. I have two questions:

1) Does the vacation insurance that Disney offers cover a hurricane wash out?

2) Is the vacation insurance worth it?

Thanks for any help!

My sister and I are going end of August top of Sept. No kids, no hubbies! We researched and purchased at www insuremytrip dot com. (Sorry, don't think I can post links yet.) I am paying $29 to insure $735 worth of travel expenses. It makes tremendous sense to me! I would be bummed out if for some reason our trip had to be cancelled, but I would be more bummed if our trip was cancelled and I was out $735. From what I have read here, independent insurance tends to be much more inclusive than that which is available from Disney.

We've traveled in Sept twice before and never got the travel insurance and have been nervous both times about hurricanes. I have cruised twice and did get the insurance for those, which came in handy last year after New Orleans was hit and we had to change our flights to another port.

We do go with private insurance because the cost is cheaper and the coverage tends to be same or better. Some of the insurances charge for adults, but kids are free, so check this out when you are researching. I think we had Travel lite the last time and our DD was free with my DH and self and the cost was about $80 covering $1000 per person.

If it gives you peace of mind, then its worth the extra money. This year we are traveling in early Dec, so we are concerned about possible early snowfalls, so we will probably be investing in the insurance as well.

I may be wrong but when reading over the insurance offered thru Disney when we booked it did NOT cover for the likes of Hurricanes and such.

We're driving down so we won't have to worry about lost/stolen luggage that sort of thing or anything else really as we're leaving home a whole day earlier then we need to in order to make our reservations.

We chose to opt out of the insurance.

I have to correct my previous post. It is $28 for $700 in travel expenses and here is what is covered...

We have never gotten the Insurance.

We used to always have the travel insurance when we went to Disney on the packages, but when we bought DVC, we stopped getting it. I'm not sure why. I think it's because we always forget to do that. But I do think it's important and is well worth the money. It's always better to be safe than sorry.
