Okay, so if I buy 150 points in use year (October 2003) will I have to pay the annual dues in January 2004 or will they start the dues in Jan 2005?

If I died, will my heir get the DVC points or will it revert back to Disney?

Are there any down sides to the DVC?

Any bad experiences out there that I should be aware of before I make my decision?

By the way, I just found this site a couple of days ago and I am hooked! It's wonderful!

I believe the dues would be pro rataed.

If you pass on to the WDW in the sky before 2042 your heirs would get it or whomever else you may have on the title to the timeshare.

The DVC FAQ will answer most of your mechanical questions.

The biggest downside is that since points keep going up in price, add ons get more expensive.

On this board you have a DVC friendly audience. each one will honestly say that the only regret is that they didn't buy sooner....we bought in '92, we don't have any regrets....I guess we could have bought in late '91, but I don't think that enough to really call a 'regret'.

If you buy direct from DVC, you start paying dues on the day you buy. For example, if you buy on July 1, that's 50% of the year left, so you would pay 50% of the annual. Use year has nothing to do with it, dues are based on the calendar year. If you buy resale, you negotiate with the seller regarding this year's dues since they were billed last January.

***If you love Disney and go at least every 2-3 years or want to go none I can think of. Remember if you have not been to Disney often or not at all consider the other costs such as park tickets etc....

***Make sure if you buy, you buy into the resort you would be happy to stay at when booking at the 11 month window - you can book others at 7 months but you have to be happy with your home resort in case nothing opens up

You will love it, but I totally understand your apprehensions. I would imagine most of us went through the same thing. You can pass this on or will it to your heirs, in the event of your death. It does not go back to Disney until 2042. We just added on for the 3rd time since 2000 and we began paying our dues the day we bought them. We didn't get billed for them, however, until after closing and then they prorate them. We bought 230 points in May of 2000 and thought that would be plenty. Then we got hooked on those relaxing DVC vacations and can't get enough. We're up to 500 points and I'm hoping we can stop there.

Yes, the only bad part about DVC is how addictive it is!

We bought 150 points at OKW in '96 and are in the process of adding on 56 more at BCV. We live in Florida and take about 3 or 4 short trips-long weekends a year.

If you enjoy going to Disney, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it after you join, especially when you walk into a 1-bedroom (beats the heck out of a hotel room!)

The only thing that bugs me every once in a while is how the dues have increased already, and will continue to increase. We also would never take so many vacations to FL unless we had this ownership...which needless to say leads to many more dollars spent. I'm thinking of other places that we'll want to take the kids for the educational value of the trip and to see things that should be seen (Grand Canyon, etc.) and how this will all work with the Disney trips.
The "other than Disney" trips that you can take look nice, but carry at least the $95 fee per booking....which just went up from $75. We recently wanted to go to the Plaza in NYC and decided not worth spending the points plus the fee. Maybe we'll use others in other places, but most will not be the size of the places that we get at our Disney resorts, which is why we bought in the first place with a family of five.

We are still enjoying what we have and are blessed to be able to go away together...just rethinking if it's the best thing in the long run for us.

DVC is wonderful...we just bought last year and the only regret my mom and I have talked about is not buying sooner. But if we would have bought sooner, we wouldn't have stayed at so many other hotels so I guess it's kinda even

one thing that bugs me is how the weekends are double the points...so every weekend we plan on moving to a different hotel or go to USF
