VA... upgrading to PE

We are travelling cattle class to Orlando on 24th March with Virgin (using reward points) and want to upgrade to PE (with money).....

They say there is no availablity, but you can book them directly with them if youre not upgrading.. so there are obviously seats available.

Does anyone have any experience of this? Is it worth us keep trying? Or not really?

Also, does anyone have any idea how much it is to upgrade (assuming there is availablity!)

Are you saying you have booked an economy seat using Flying Club miles? If so then that would not be an upgradable ticket. The only way to upgrade would be to pay the regular fare for economy and use the miles for the upgrade but often those tickets are few and far between on the Orlando route.

Also its Easter so very popular, maybe the class of ticket has gone.

There are different types and costs for PE, not just one. VH might be just allocated a few, but direct VA have them.

its virgin atlantic that we are contacting.. not virgin holidays.. - is the flying club VH then?

I booked with the flying club (with miles).... they told us that we CAN upgrade for money but there is no availability in PE.. (which there is as i have checked!)


Also on our E ticket it has a section about upgrading your ticket....

Most airlines have a set number of seats in each fare grade for each class of seat. I am guessing that if you could upgrade the miles flight then the upgrade fare grade has gone, even though there are seats in PE they are a different fare grade. I was not aware that a miles flight could be upgraded with cash

Flying Club is VA and the Frequent Virgin Club is VH, two totally different loyalty schemes with different entitlements.

There is no upgrade class available in PE now.. but we might be able to closer to the time, or even at the airport...

According to the T&C for Flying Club the only upgradable booking classes are Y, B, L. So looks like you may be out of luck unless they are desperate for upgrades at check in but even then they may say due to booking class it is not possible. I guess these T&C's are here to stop some people hedging their bets and getting an upgrade on the cheapest of tickets, although sometimes this is not the case and after booking some people change their minds but unfortuantely they are stuck with what they booked.

I booked Miles and Money for last August, 1 week before going I rang for upgrade price just for return leg, told me I would have to upgrade ticket, and pay amendment fee on top of upgrade for seat, totalled about £800 for 3 of us. Didn't bother, that pays for another trip for 3 in economy almost.

yes the only way i can do it, is cancel my ticket, rebook economy ticket and then use miles to upgrade

Or try at the airport for an upgrade...
