I am doing online checkin today for our flight tomorrow and we will drive to gatwick tonight to bag drop as we don't live too far.

Will virgin want to see all the hand luggage and buggies we are taking of can I leave those until airport tomorrow ? with 5 of us going the hand luggage is quite a bit and I don't want haul it there and back unless I have to.

Thanks.

Getting so blinkin excited now.....tummy is flip flopping....

Technically you need everything with you when you check your bags in, and everybody as well.

Never done bag drop day before but don't see the use of taking hand luggage, Theres nothing to stop you adding taking or totally changing your hand luggage before your flight. Surely they just want luggage to be checked in.

We were told to take our hand luggage to twi-light checkin when we used it in Feb & they never looked at it.

But what would you do if you left it at home & they insisted you have it? I would personally ring Virgin to check first.

They asked to see ours and put a label on it to show it had been checke and told me not to put anything else in mine as very close to the limit. This was in 2005 when we did twilight check in.

If you are doing online checkin why not wait until tomorrow and do the bag drop it will save a journey there and back tonight?

Ah looks like everyone has to go according to this on the VA website -

At the airport go straight to a Virgin Atlantic Bag Drop, including passengers with hand luggage only.

At the bag drop passengers are required to show their passport, paper tickets or E-ticket to collect their boarding documents and check their bags in.

Also not sure if bag drop is open the night before??

I know it seems a waste of time to go to twilight to drop bags tonight when I've checked in and have printed boarding cards.
Thing is, we only live about 20 miles from Gatwick and my Mum is coming up from the south coast and it's easier on trains for her to get to Gatwick than to us so she is meeting us there. We will then have dinner near the airport, so no cooking for me and no washing up for DH :goodvibes We can scoop the girls out of the car straight to bed then it's easier all round in the morning - no car to load etc. Showers all round, quick cuppa, chuck the teabags on the compost heap, jump in car and brekkie at Gatwick to kill some time.
In the words of Bridget Jones "Good plan".

In addition to note:
Was v.impressed :thumbsup2 with VA online checkin and particularly the ability to checkin pax from more than one booking - this is great as we only "upgraded" tiddler to have her own seat a few weeks ago and consequently she was bunged on a seperate booking, I had nightmares about checking the other four of us in and getting around to her and there being no seat next to us available......
Took all the worry away - I've had problems with VH/VA over this holiday but I must say - well done to the IT people at VA for thinking out of the box on this one. :goodvibes
