Since this toy is a bit of an investment, at 60$ for the unit and about 20$ for each additional cartridge, I thought I'd ask for reviews from the DIS family!

I'm especially interested to know if the purported website where you can download additional books/games a la the grownup Kindle is operational. If so, are the items free or for a price? How do the prices compare to the physical cartridge prices? How about the quality/selection of the free stuff vs the pay stuff?

Thanks very much!

All I can say is that when I went to Target last week, I let my 16 month old DS explore the toy aisles to get an idea of what he might like for Christmas. He saw the display for the V. Reader and spent 10 minutes playing with it. They had the Dora story on the display and my DS kept pointing and grunting his toddler talk to show me the story and the pictures, using the stylus. He threw a fit when I pulled him away and went down another aisle. I put him down and he ran back to the aisle with the display and continued to play for several more minutes until I distracted him and we left the toy department. If I can get it for under $40 this season, I'll get it for him. Otherwise, he'll get it for his 2nd birthday in May.
