DBF and I rented this movie over the weekend and it was fantastic. It was very politically scary and thought provoking. Also reminded me quite a bit of the novel 1984, if anyone has read it.

Very highly recommended and Hugo Weaving (the "Mister Anderson" guy from the Matrix trilogy and also the elf dad in the Lord of the Rings trilogy) was fantastic as V.

LOL, I didn't like it at all. DH said it was "alright."

We saw another movie over the weekend that really made a much larger impression on us - Stay. It was beautiful, deep, and unique. After that, V for Vedetta just didn't do it for us. Funny how that happens when you see movies close together ;)

Glad you enjoyed it!

When I saw it someone yelled,"Elf dude, you're in the wring movie!". Granted it was a late showing :)

It looked interesting. Was it very violent?

Some very violent scenes, but not a lot of them.

I purchased the DVD the day it came out and loved the movie. Very thought provoking and I agree that Hugo Weaving was great as V. There is just something about the way he delivers lines.

My Dh watched it the other night and loved it, not something I think I'd like to watch but he enjoyed it. :)

I loved it. :thumbsup2

Definitely thought provoking and I thought that Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving were excellent.

Saw it in theaters, own the collector's DVD pack with a small mask!

The movie is IMO incredible and it really speaks volumes about a lot of potential problems with going down certain paths. It also is very much about seeing a new perspective on things, how often times we're so guided by the forces at work in conjunction with each other, we're unable to see the different possiblities or viewpoints.

If you're a right wing conservative, you'll probably hate this movie, if you're anything but, then you should see it.

I think Natalie Portman did a fantastic job especially trying to do a british accent...Im no expert but I think she did well enough for me to believe it.

The thing thats important to realize in the movie is that the government portrayed has existed before, does exist now in some ways in other countries, and could exist again if we let it happen.

We saw it over the weekend too! My husband wanted to watch it a second time, and he NEVER watches movies twice! It really intrigued him, and it did me too. I enjoyed it a lot.

:thumbsup2 Me, too.

I didn't want anything to do with this movie, but went for DH's birthday.

It is AMAZING. I absolutely love it.

I thought it was okay, but the original graphic novel, by Alan Moore and David Lloyd, was much better.

Moore had his name taken off the film as creator. He didn't like the fact that the film version attached George Bush, while his version attacked Margaret Thatcher.

While the graphic novel was 20 years old, one idea that was dropped and shouldn't have been was that England was ruled, not by a religious fanatic (the Bush connection) but by a computer, which the Supreme Leader was in love with.

I will agree that both Hugh Weaving and Natalie Portman were excellent.

We rented it last weekend an loved it. First time a movie hasn't put me to sleep in a long time.

I agree with all of this EXCEPT I am a right wing conservative, a TRUE republican and I didn't hate it. It SCARES me that some people are so willing to give up their rights, their personal freedoms in the appearance of security.

Rented it this week and LOVED it! :thumbsup2

Loved the Matrix-esque action scenes, the very poinent paralelles (s), and of course I grew a crush on V . :p

Mh dh even loved this movie, and he though it would be stupid. He's a huge fan of Batman (has quite a collection of Batman comics), and he loved the fact that V never took off his mask and revealed who he was and what he was like. As my dh said 'nobody watches Batman movies and is wanting to see Bruce Wayne putter around his house, they want to see Batman!" lol

I am sure they are self-proclaimed right wingers who have no clue what Republicanism/Conservatism is really about. It's not what the GOP stands for today.

While the movie certainly had some things that can be related to what Bush in doing to this country, I didn't see any obvious changes to tie it directly to Bush. Despite a couple small changes to the story the whole thing seemed to remain a broad "what if" rather than trying to mirror any real history.

You are right, but of course some people try to draw the lines and get all upset over it. ;)
