Hi everyone -- my fiance and I have a dinner reservation coming up at Victoria and Albert's, and I had a question about the dress code. I know it's just shy of white tie, but how does that apply specifically for women? My fiance is getting a suit, but do I HAVE to get an evening dress or suit for myself? I was hoping just to get by with something classy, like some dress slacks and a nice silk shirt. Would that be acceptable? I don't have anything against dresses or suits, but I keep finding really nice combinations that I like better. Any advice on what people can get by with? I just don't want to drop a lot of cash until I'm sure. Thanks! :)

It is not just shy of White Tie, but Black Tie would not be out of place.

However, for men jacket is required and tie is recommended. Also no jeans.

For women anything from what you would wear in an office or cocktail party or dinner party all the way up to formal. Dress slacks and a sild shirt should be fine, maybe with a nice scarf for accent.

I always wear tan slacks, blue sport coat, Disney tie, and loafers to V&A. MRs U almost always in a long skirt (Laura Ashely type) with sweater or blouse, w/flats instead of heels
You will see most everything at V&A, so my suggestion is to dress how YOU feel best.

Agreed. Just shy of white tie is black tie. White tie events are incredibly rare. Although black tie is fine for V&A's it's certainly not required (or even, I believe, the norm). A nice suit or slacks and sport coat are perfectly fine. My DH will be wearing a suit and I will wear a simple little black dress that skims the fine line between formal and semi-formal women's wear.

Nice dress slacks & a blouse sound perfectly acceptable. The first time DH & I went to V&A, we dressed to the nines, WAY too formal for us to be comfortable. DH usually wears a business suit w/tie & I wear either a skirt or very dressy pants with a nice silk blouse & pearls. V&A is such a unique dining experience, esp. for a theme park! Hope you have a wonderful dinner.

I hope I don't bust your bubble too much but this is right off the WDW site

# Dinner jacket is required for gentlemen (tie optional) and dress or pants ensemble for ladies. Reservations required. Plan for 2 to 2½ hours dining time.

And when we went in 2000 that was the policy for what we saw .... HOWEVER when we went in 2005 we saw every thing from jeans ... YES THAT'S JEANS, and collared shirts (no T's yet). By the same token you can even see folks in formal attire if attending from a Wedding, Prom, etc. This lack of dress code enforcement is why we will no longer drop the big $$$ at V&As. The food and service is great, but you can get almost the same at some place like Narcoossee's or Bistro at almost 1/2 the price. I now refuse to pay $200 for a personalized menu and a single red rose for the wife. I can now give her two dinners out with appetizer, Lobster, wine, and desert for the price of one dinner at V&A's.

You should probably eat there at least once so you can say you have :rotfl2:

Jacket for men is required, sportscoat is fine. No tie is required. Hubby always wears one of those nice silk type tees under his suit..very dressy.

For women...nice pants top, dress, all the way up to formal is acceptable. What you are describing sound perfect.

Enjoy!
