Well I get the mother of the year award... at my 12yo's ball game on Monday night he stole home (WTG T!!) and came limping over to me saying he hurt his ankle.... I told him to suck it up and get back to his team... he finished the game, went to school Tuesday - teacher was making them run laps for gym and he couldn't do it... came home and told me it really hurt, took off his sock and his ankle was 3X it's normal size.

Dr at the clinic said it's either sprained or fractured and we went for X-rays this morning and am hoping I get the results soon saying it's just a sprain. What a mom I am telling him to suck it up  Even worse I sent him to school after the x-ray. But my arguement there is I only have 6 more school days that I have quiet afternoons with no kids (youngest is KG) I need those afternoons ya know :lmao:

No no No, I get the award. Last Saturday my 6 year old was complaining about being freezing cold. He wanted a blanket but I just gave him a sweatshirt and didn't pay too much attention because (in all honesty) when he uses a blanket in the living room it always ends up on the floor and I am a bit of a neat freak. Later that night he was throwing up with a high fever etc..so I should have listened and taken better care of my little guy but I guess you live and learn!

I hear ya!!!!

When my youngest was 4 months we went away for 4 days in July and the first 2 days she did nothing but cry. We passed it off as being away from home and it was extremely hot. Well, to make a long story short she ended up in the hospital for a week due to an infection.

So, the moral of all our stories is that we are not perfect and we do the best we can.

It was just a sprain thank goodness. Dr's told me kids heal fast and I didn't think he would heal as fast as he has considering how swollen it was. He's back to walking around and running around on it while I keep trying to tell him to take it easy.

Don't feel so bad about it now - thanks for the kind words everyone!

I did the same thing. My 10 yo DH came into the house crying because he fell off his bike and his arm hurt. I yelled at him because he had left his bike in the middle of the street and told him to go get it and put it on the porch.

After he did this, I then took one look at his arm and took him straight to the hospital. It was purple and his forearm looked like it had a second elbow. I felt so bad that I had yelled at him!

He was in a cast the rest of the summer, poor kid.

Two years ago we were at our family cottage and DS6 fell down the slope leading to the lake. His arm hurt so we took him to Huntsville Hospital and had it x-rayed. Everything was fine according to ER. well for the rest of week he kept whining and I was getting irritated with him and told him to put his shirt on! 8 days later Huntsville Hospital called after the technician had read the reports and his upper arm was fractured in 3 places!!!! I felt so bad ~ I cried for an hour.....poor guy......at that point there was nothing we could do about because it had already started to heal. :guilty:

It happens to the best of us ~ forgive yourself.

PS - DS arm is just fine now.

Just remember ~ Kids Don't Come with Instructions!

We all have to play it by ear!

We are only human!

They heal faster than we do! :lmao: :lmao:

Reading the above, it hit me----my TV came with an owners manual about 3 inches thick. I was sent home from the hospital with a newborn human being and no instruction manual. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Here's one for you. When my daughter was about six or seven, she had a cold. Kept coughing after the cold was cleared, complained and whined about not feeling well. She had missed 10 days of school. Told her to stop whining and go back to school. First day back teacher sent her home from school because she couldn't seem to keep up in gym. I took her to the doctor, who did a chest x-ray, and guess what? My poor little bird had pneumonia.

Don't feel so guilty, you do your best, but nobody's perfect.

What's up with that anyway...... whoever decided that kids didn't need an owners manual :confused3 :lmao:

Yes, it happens to ALL of us. We respond 99% of the time and all is OK, but the 1% of the time we just brush it off to tiredness, whining, etc. is when something really serious is wrong. I have also done it when my 4yrDD had a serious kidney infection and when my son had pneumonia. In the later case, I was even sent home from emergency with the doctor saying I was overreacting. :sad2:
