Utilizing pts from 2 resorts

I can't imagine this is a new idea, with as many experts own at different resorts. Bt here is my scenario and question...

Say I own 200 pts at BLT and 200 at SSR (same use year, same membership#). I am only going to use 200 pts of current year pts for a trip this year, so I'm planning on having to bank 200 into the next use year. BLT is my first choice resort, so I book a BLT room at 11 months out (current use year points). Since I value the BLT pts more than the SSR pts, I would prefer to use the SSR pts for the trip though. So I check BLT availability at 7 months.

Questions

1) If the same room category/nights are available at BLT at 7 months, can I simply "reallocate" the pt usage for the reservation and switch the reservation to use the SSR pts to where I can then bank my more valuable BLT pts into the next use year? Or do I have to cancel my ressie and cross my fingers that the opening and my cancellation both aren't taken by someone else and leave me SOL?

2) If BLT doesn't have the listed availability and I want to gamble with cancelling and trying to re-book with the SSR pts, when does my room go back into inventory and will any wait lists be in front of me when I try to re-book my room?

Help me understand where the cracks are in trying to utilize different resort pts like this.

Thanks

if there is availabilty at BLT, you can make the ressies with your SSR points and THEN cancel the BLT points. As long as you are in your banking window, you can then bank the BLT points.

if there is no availability, once you cancel your reservations, waitlist people are supposed to be given priority and you go to the back of the line. therefore, i would only reallocate if there is availability and not take the chance that the waitlist goes through.

For your first question : MS does not do this unless there is at least 1 more room that is available at the time of your call for the same size/category/number of nights in addition to what you had previously reserved because if they allowed a swap/reallocation of your BLT points to SSR points when 7mos window opens that would mean the 11month through 7month+1day priority booking window means nothing - everyone who owns points at 2 or more resorts could just swap at 7.

If you've got enough points at 7mos to book BLT with your SSR points then as pp said you can book BLT and then cancel you first BLT reservation made with BLT points. It doesn't make sense to cancel BLT and hope that at some point you could book with SSR points because at 7mos and < your chances will be slim and anyone on the waitlist ahead of you remains ahead of you whether you decide to waitlist or just take your chances calling & checking.

Best wishes on your planning :goodvibes

It worked out for me when I did almost exactly what you are talking about. I booked BCV early for my May trip using my BCV points. I really wanted to save those to use later in the fall, so at exactly 7 months, I called to try and use my OKW points for the same BCV stay. I booked the 2 bedroom villa for the same time period with my OKW points (had to put the reservation in my husband's name because I was told I couldn't have 2 reservations for the same time in my name), and then cancelled the original reservation and saved my BCV points to use during Food and Wine. Hope you have the same luck when you try!!
