Uterine ablation?

The one thing you absolutely must be sure of is that you will never get pregnant. It can be life-threatening to you if you do.

Kristy, given your steadfast views on BC, this concerns me deeply.

I had the NovaSure procedure done 2 years ago and it was the absolute best thing I have ever done! I am thrilled with the results.

To my understanding, you can still get pregnant, but you cannot sustain a pregnancy, so my doctor insisted on some kind of extremely reliable birth control. Therefore, my husband paid a visit to his doctor for the big "V".

I had one 2 years ago. It was the hot water (use saline) and I couldn't be happier. I love the fact that it made no change to my hormones, so that I still cycle, but I never bleed. I am going thru menopause naturally....and have had no "side effects" other than that...

I'm going to be getting my tubes tied at the same time. I wonder why this is not done more often.

DH absolutely refused the big V

Good luck to you,,I will post back after I get it

Tink

It may not be done the same time more often because as far as I know, to have your tubes tied you would also have to have the laparoscopic surgery, whereas you wouldn't have to have that just for the ablation.

Ah, well, I figure I'd do it while I was out anyway.

I can't really think of a reason not to.

I had the Novasure done in April this year. I put this off for three years because I was so scared...of what, I am not sure. My periods were so bad though I could hardly leave the house, let alone get any sleep at night. The thing that finally make me do it was a trip to Hawaii. We had a two week summer vacation planned and I just knew I was going to have my "friend" along. So, In April I had it done. What a dufus I was to have so long! The procedure was a piece of cake and the healing was easy. Just take it easy for a few days. My periods have been so incredibly light since that and it has really changed my life. And yes, I did have my period while in Hawaii but it wasn't even worth mentioning!!!!

I had an ablation last September. I had the Essure procedure done at the same time (birth control.)

Has it worked? Sort of. I still had horrible periods for months after. They have gotten lighter but I still get them. A certain percentage of women will not get the desired outcome from the ablation.

I don't like the fact that it makes uterine abnormalities a littel harder to detect.

I used to bleed so heavily that I had no choice but to try this. I would rate my satisfaction at about 80-85%.

Mine was done at a surgical center and I was put out for the procedure but that could be because I had the other procedure at the same time.

You definately can't(shouldn't) have children after this. It can be very dangerous. If you have any desire (even the smallest) to have another child then this isn't the procedure for you.

Good luck with your decision. Please keep us posted on what you decide to do. :grouphug:

"A certain percentage of women will not get the desired outcome from the ablation"

I am one of the women that did not get the desired outcome. :furious:
So I ended up with an hyster. (I still have my ovaries but thats it) at age 23.

Good Luck :thumbsup2

Perhaps you went about it the wrong way. I told him if he wanted the big "S", then he needed to get the big "V". Worked like a charm. ;)

In all honesty, the big V was no big deal. They do it outpatient with a laser now and the recovery is minimal.

I had the ablation done in January...and I've not read everyone else's posts to see if it affected them the same way as it has me.

The procedure was like any other general anesthetic surgery as far as woes go...I don't handle anesthesia very well.

The procedure itself was a breeze. I had a little bit of cramping afterward and some soreness, but I never even had to take a single one of the pain pills they prescribed.

My excessive bleeding finally quit. I didn't have a cycle for 6 months at all. Now I have something that iss somewhat like one, but it only lasts about a day.

Side effects: don't do this if you think you'll ever try for having more kids. Other than that...it turned out great.
