Hi! Newbie to these boards and enjoying them! Looking for some Universal feedback from you vets. Made a reservation last week for a night at PBH before we go to WDW, and haven't gotten a confirmation yet - most places I've been to give an immediate e-mail confirmation. Then, today, I got a charge on my Visa for the cost of the room I reserved for October! Is this a normal thing for Loew's? I've been going to hotels for years and when you give them the charge card to hold the room, they don't actually charge until you arrive. Am I going to have to fight another charge in Oct when we get there? Thanks, guys!

Not sure if you are saying they charged you for one nights deposit or for your whole stay but I can tell you my experience. I usually book thru the 1-800-beastar and last year booked two rooms (this was at the RP). I was charged one nights deposit for both rooms immediately. Upon arrival, they only had a record of a deposit paid on one room and not the other. Luckily, I had the cc with me that I used and they were able to somehow look it up.

This year, thanks to someone on this board (I think it was RyGuy, not sure though), I booked online and have not been charged a deposit yet and we will be arriving next week.

I made a reservation last week for January. I expect a one night deposit to hit my card any day now. I have always been charged a deposit at the Loews hotels at Universal.

Thank you both - I guess it's their SOP to do that. It took me by surprise because they said nothing about a deposit just asked if I'd like to hold the room with a credit card. Since we're only staying one night and that's what I assume they charged (without a confirmation giving any details, I'm not sure yet - I'll find out though! :) ) I should look forward to a fully paid visit! Haven't stayed here - we liked the Hard Rock but it was sold out this time :sad1:

when i book for the hrh, i am always charged a one night stay to guarentee my stay there.

i booked in march for my october stay. one time i thought i already did pay for the one night stay in advance but found out when i arrived due to a computer glitch, it never happened.

i prefer to pay at least one night in advance....it kind of soothes the ouch, that amount.....when i check out.

pretty common practice to charge one night in advance even if your ressie is months away.

For our stay last month, I originally booked at RPR and was told I would be charged one night as a deposit. Then, a couple of months later, I switched to a more expensive room at PBH and asked for the RPR deposit to be moved across as a credit towards the new amount - I was told it would be two separate transactions and that a fresh deposit would be taken for PBH. Later still, I switched back to RPR for a better rate and was again told the new deposit would be taken separately from a refund on my PBH deposit (are you following? ;) )

When I returned from our trip, I couldn't find any trace of refunds on the first two deposits, so rang to query them - I was told no deposits had been taken! Of course, when I checked back all my cc invoices, I could see they were quite correct, only the third deposit had ever been charged - I have no idea why!

It is quite confusing when you start making changes to a reservation. It should be very easy to apply the deposit to the new reservations, but they seem to want to make it hard. I have had them take the deposit, refund the deposit, take another deposit, you get the idea. You really have to keep good records.
