USRentacar Upgrades

Has anyone been insistent regarding the upgrade that is on the voucher from USRentacar?

If so how did the car rental company react?

I have a full size booked with an upgrade to premium but it does say only if available and is not guaranteed. Not bothered too much if I do get an upgrade as a full size will be good anyway.

Good question, I need an upgrade as we have another 2 people coming now, wonder how long I shold push it for? They are going to look a bit stupid though if they say not available then sell me one!

I have had 5 or 6 free upgrades(with UK suppliers) now and always been given them, with Dollar and Budget.
Also had a few free upgrades at the desk. Only once did they tell me, told me it was because we had been waiting in Dollar Express line for too long(10 mins) All others we didn't find out until we got to the car.

When we collected our car from Budget (thru USRentacar), they tried to give us a compact - we had booked a compact with free upgrade to intermediate. I knew it shouldn't be too busy in August, so was relatively positive about getting the intermediate, but with three of us if we didn't it wasn't a huge issue.

I pointed out to the rental agent that we should get a free upgrade and she wasn't so happy, asking me to point out 'where does it say that' on the paperwork. I showed her and we got an upgrade to a Charger, which Wayne has advised me is actually a full size, so happy beans over here

Our friends booked exactly the same and, without realising, were given a compact. It was only when they couldn't get all their luggage in that Budget said they would give them a bigger car.

Would still use Budget again if I get a good deal - just stand your ground, but be aware that is does state this offer is subject to availability.
