Using WDW tickets at Disneyland

I am just now listening to the email show. Contrary to the what was said on the podcast, you CAN use your WDW parkhopper ticket (not annual pass) at Disneyland. I have done this personally, so I know it's true. You show your WDW parkhopper at the turnstiles, the cast member then goes to one of the offices on the side and comes back after a few minutes with a Disneyland pass to be used for fast passes, etc.

This is also mentioned on mousesavers.com:

Note that Disneyland tickets are not valid at WDW.

That is a pretty cool feature. I'd be curious about the prices though. I always assumed the DLR tickets are a ton cheaper than those on WDW.

Disneyland tickets are a bit less expensive than WDW, but not much.

For example, a one day-one park WDW ticket is $79.88 with tax, whereas a one day-one park Disneyland ticket us $69.00.

The real deals come in when you buy more than one day, of course. The more days you buy, the more you save.

This is awesome news! I have a 10 day non expiry park hopper for WDW and have been saving so that when I go to DL next month I could buy a ticket. I'm so happy that I can use one of my park hopper days while at Disney Land, what a deal!:cool1::cool1:

I did a lot of research on this before my last DL trip and read that WDW tickets could be used at DL. I did not personally do this myself, but blindly trust the information on the DIS.;)

It is a good deal if you are only planning on one day at DL and you have a nonexpiring WDW ticket. I think 3 days is about the point where it makes more sense to purchase a DL ticket.

Mike, did you get a park hopper for Disneyland/California Adventure? I had read that if your WDW ticket is a PH they will give you a DL PH.

They gave me a "1-Day Park Replacement Ticket," which was valid only on that day. Below it, it says "Original Ticket: WDW Media." That way, I could go from park to park and use fast pass.

On this weeks E-mail show, Pete specifically says that it can't be done, but I'm going to take my WDW hopper pass anyways just in case. This could save me $70 bucks!

I hope my experience is the same as yours Mike;)

Mike is right. WDW tickets are accepted at Disneyland. WDW APs are not accepted at Disneyland.

Quite a few DISers over the years have taken advantage of this. :)

Have a GREAT time at Disneyland and let us know how it went.

Just to piggy back on this - if you're using multi-day Walt Disney World admission media, you will have to do this each day.

For example, if you have a Walt Disney World ticket with 3 days and want to visit Disneyland for 3 days - in the morning on each of those 3 days, the Disneyland cast member would have to take your ticket and issue a Disneyland ticket. They can't do all 3 days at once. :)

Hmm, so if I was going to WDW for 7 days, I could buy a 10 day non-expiring park hopper and save the 3 left over days for our next trip to the DLR?

I would have to look into whether that would save us money, we usually never add on the non-expire option. But right now I have no trips planned so I'll have to keep it in mind when I do and make sure they still offer it- very cool.

Yes! Just remember everyone that the "transaction" is done at the turnstiles .... not at the ticket booths.

Please let us know if this saved you any money!!!

You can, but I would crunch the numbers before you purchase. Non-expiration on a 10 day is pricey. It may be a much better value for you to purchase as much admission as you need for Disney World - without non-expiration, and purchase your Disneyland admission separately.

If Disney was LOSING money on something like this, they wouldn't let you do it! :)

I just looked really quick at the prices on allearsnet.com:

A 7 day WDW parkhopper with no expiration is $413.22. A 3 day DLR parkhopper bought online is $169.00. The total for this is $582.22.

A 10 day WDW parkhopper with no expiration is $518.66. That's a $63.56 savings!!!

You might even be able to save a bit more by buying the WDW parkhopper through one of the online official ticket sellers!

WOW! So cool, thanks guys. Yeah, I'll have to double check when a trip comes up to make sure this still works at the time.

Disney probably doesn't loose too much money on this because people probably don't know about it, and there are actually very few cross overs...(people who regularly go to both WDW and the DLR).

In 2003 we bought some WDW park hoppers at the Disney store here and the workers all came over to watch because they said I was the first person to ever buy a WDW pass and they never knew anyone who had ever been there (obviously since I am in CA, they sell a lot of DLR passes). It was pretty funny, and they were asking me all about it and wondering if it would be worth the trip for them with their Disney worker discount- and I was like "YES!!!!!!"

On a sidenote, I used one of the old WDW Multi-day Passports (the rubber stamp kind Pete was talking about) this past February at the Disneyland turnstiles. Piece of cake. They actually gave me a DL Park Hopper pass for the day.

Musings about this:

  • I first used this 5-day Passport at EPCOT Center 1988, and finished it in Disneyland Feb 2009.
  • Back then, all tickets were "no expiration"
  • I paid $150 for the 5-day ticket - you do the math
  • All these tickets were automatically Park Hopper

Some castmember magic: When I went to the turnstiles on Day #2, the cast member redeemed my last day of the Passport for a Park Hopper, One-day pass. She saw my kids had non-Park Hoppers, and she exchanged those for Park Hoppers as well without my asking. She said, "Today is most likely going to be a light day. Enjoy yourselves." That gave me a big smile.

My daughter said, "What's happening, Daddy?"

"Sweetie, this is what's called Castmember Magic."

Lots of smiles all around.

Thanks, Debbie at the Disneyland Park turnstiles!

So all the unused, one day, one park WDW tickets that I've had to buy to get free dining packages over the years (we've used AP's for every trip) could be used at DL or CA? I realize we'd only be able to do one park per day, but not having to buy tickets could be the deciding factor in favor of a quick DL trip! Thanks for the tip!

DSNY4ever, if you are spending the 7 days at WDW in one trip, you don't need the non-expiring option, so you should consider the price of a 7 day expiring ticket which is $296.07 instead of the $413.22. Then it really isn't a savings to use a 10 day non expiring ticket.

Like others have said, if you are going for a day or so, or if you have the WDW tickets that you aren't going to be using, then swap them at DL. We have a 10 day non-expiring park hopper ticket from a couple of years ago, and we plan to go to DL for a day, so that is worth it to us. The price per day on the non-exp ticket was around $40, so that is significantly less than paying for a 1 day ticket at DL, especially since we want to park hop.

It's only worth it if you need at 10 day non expiring hopper at WDW. If you go for a few days and don't plan to go back for a while then get the non expiring tickets, they will be cheaper.

Then consider how long will you be at Disneyland. There are always deals for their multi day tickets and they are cheaper than WDW.

If you are like me and live on the east coast and go to WDW a lot thus do buy the 10 day non expiring hopper it makes sense to use them at DL if we go for 1 day. We save a bit and maybe would not have gone to DL if we had to buy full price 1 day tickets for the family. Disney probably considers that too. If you go to WDW all the time why spend a fourtune at DL for 1 day. But if you can use your WDW multi day ticket it is very easy. Disney makes it easy for a reason.
