Using Visa gift cards to buy Disney gift cards

I keep seeing conflicting information on this. Can I go to, say, Sam’s or Target and use Visa gift cards to buy Disney gift cards?

I’ve read of people on this board successfully doing so, but it also seems like a lot of retailers have a disclaimer on their site stating “gift cards cannot be used to buy other gift cards”.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's a YMMV situation. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. It really just depends on the card and the retailer. Right before Christmas I went to convert 3 discounted Visa Gift cards. Two of them worked but the smaller one for $25 wouldn't go through so the cashier walked me through doing it online and it worked fine. It really just depends on the system. You mention Sams, if you have membership, you can order them online with a VGC. I have done it more than once.

The “gift cards cannot be used to buy other gift cards” usually means you can not use a specific store gift card to buy another gift card. In other words you can not use a Target GC or a Best Buy GC to buy a Dis GC. You used to be able to at both those store but they stopped it.

One thing some people do when using a GC is to buy something else. Some times a pack of gum or say you need to buy other things at the store anyway. So you are buying a $50 Dis GC and have a $50 Target GC but you also buy you groceries and it totals $125 including the GC you the Target GC and another form of payment such as cash or a credit/debit card.

I recently used digital Visa GCs to purchase Disney GCs on Target's website. No issues.

I probably purchase at least 2 Disney gift cards with a visa gift card online every month. I get these visa cards from Swag bucks or mypoints. I add the visa to my pay pal and set it as a preferred way to pay. Then i go to target put a Disney gift card for the same amount as my visa gift card in my cart. Then i pay with pay pal and use the preferred card. I have my Disney gift card with in 1 hr. Don't use Shop Disney because it is very hit o miss even while using paypal

Thanks. Yes, I was hoping that’s what that disclaimer meant - that in-house gift cards couldn’t be used to buy other gift cards - but wasn’t positive.
