Using United Frequent Flyer Miles for car rental

I am thinking about using frequent flyer miles for car rental for my trip in Aug. I have never looked into this before but have some miles that I will never use and not enough for a free ticket so I thought maybe I would use them for a car rental in disney. I checked online today to see how many miles my rental will cost. My question is do the amount of miles needed for a rental change daily just like the rental car prices do? If this is the case then I will hold out until closer to traveling date. Any info for be appreciated!

I cannot say for certain about United, but I used to work for American and the miles needed for a car rental did not change. Just like the miles needed for an airline ticket do not change when the ticket prices change.

I did a dummy booking to rent a car using United miles at LAX for June. Wow - it takes a lot of miles per day if you aren't doing a weekly rental (7,500). Of course, other rental places may be cheaper.

The amount of miles does change, depending on the rental period (weekly is cheaper), just as the amount of money changes depending on the rental period.
