Using transportation on arrival night

Hi all - I have questions about using the busses and monorail specifically on our arrival day, without burning a day in the parks.

I have read some of the other posts in a search about it, but am still unclear.

If we arrive on a Sunday afternoon to our Disney resort and would like to travel around without burning one of our ticket days, it is my understanding that we can ride busses, monorails, boats without using a park admission day, correct?

Specifically, we were thinking of taking a bus from POFQ to the Magic Kingdom and riding the monorail to EPCOT (or anywhere else it goes along the way) and then taking a bus from either EPCOT or MK (if we do a full roundtrip) back to POFQ. Can you take a monorail from MK to EPCOT directly? or do you have to go through the TTC hub and switch trains? Also, can you stay on the monorail for a round trip, or do they make you get off at each stop?

Also, if we bus to MK, can we ride the boats for a lap around the lake without using a ticket day?

Thanks for clarification.

you don't burn a "ticket day" unless you actually physically walk into a park. anything else is free.

There are three monorail loops; the express which runs counter-clockwise from the TTC to the Magic Kingdom, the "resort" loop which runs clockwise from the Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary, TTC, Polynesian, and Grand Flordian, and finally the Epcot loop which runs from the TTC to Epcot. To get from the Magic Kingdom to Epcot, you'll have to transfer at the TTC.

Yes, you can use all of the Disney transportation without buying a ticket.

You might want to take the boat to Fort Wilderness from MK and explore a little over there. The boat ride is really nice. There are stables at Fort Wilderness that are near the boat dock. If you feel like walking then you can walk the walking path to Wilderness Lodge and check that out. Then you can return from WL via boat or bus to MK. You can get to the Epcot monorail by taking the MK monorail to the TTC and switching to the Epcot monorail. From Epcot you can catch a bus back to your resort. :)

Yes, as everyone has said, it's all free! Anyone can ride the bus, monorail, or boats across the property at their leisure with or without park tickets. Have fun!

A lot of times we'll have a later flight with no park days left. We take the boat from WL to Contemporary or MK and hop on the monorail. We'll shop at Poly or GF and grab a bite to eat before leaving.:sail:

My parents never visit a park on arrival/departure day. Pretty sure on arrival day, after checking in and getting to the room, they'll take the bus to MK. From there they can ride the monorail to any of the monorail resorts or take a boat over to WL/FW. Doesn't cost anything. They'll have dinner at one of those resorts, then call it a night to be up the next morning for rope drop.

You can also take the boat from POFQ to DDT/Disney Springs. I highly recommend the boats from Fort Wilderness, WL, MK, CR, GF, and the Poly. There are so many ways to ride around the property. We will do the EPCOT loop on the monorail a couple of times if we aren't too busy. Have fun.
Cheers!!!!!!

You can bus to DHS and take the boat from there over to the Boardwalk, YC/BC, and Swan/Dolphin as well if you want to explore. By busing to DHS instead of Epcot, you can board the boat outside DHS gates.

Thanks so much. We have always camped at the Fort in the past, so I am very familiar with how nice the boat rides can be. Didn't know about the boat from POFQ to DTD (or Disney Springs) so that might be a cool trip. This is our first time at a non-camping resort so I just wanted to make sure I understood everything correctly. I appreciate the help very much!

I'll second the boat to Disney Springs. That's one of the perks of staying there. Two cautions:

1) In inclement weather they shut down the boats. Our one experience with that wasn't great. The bus system is not set up to handle the overflow from the boast.
2) Around times people may be heading to DS, it is sometimes hard to get on the boat. They reserve 2/3 of the boat for POR since it is larger. They have extra boats that they will deploy when necessary. It may just take them awhile.
