using the room key for purchases

I want to control how much I spent so I would like to place a certain amount of money on my room key. I really don't want to bring my credit cards(Too much of a temptation). Could I use cash or travellers checks for this, or would it have to be on a credit card?

You have to use a credit card to have you room key available for purchasing. But they put a limit on the card too....seems like they tell you $500. That may be way more than you are wanting for your limit, but that's all I know.

You can charge at Disney stores and put it on your room key?
Food purchases too?

Is there delivery to your room from stores?

Thanks!

Yes, just about everything can be charged to your room. They also will deliver to your room, but not until the next day usually, so you cannot do this the day before you check out.

I love the convenience of using my room key to charge stuff. It works out VERY nicely!! Instead of having my purchases delivered to my resort, I have them delivered to the front of the park and pick them up on my way out. AWESOME service! :thumbsup2 Nothing slows you down like 2 snowglobes, three sweatshirts, 10 T-shirts . . . but I digress.

I believe that you can give the front desk either cash or travelers checks to apply to the charging privilege on the room key. You then need to make sure that you check at the front desk if you think you are getting close to the amount you have given them.
Also, the various resort types have different spending limits if you do use a credit card. the value is 500, moderate 1000 and deluxe 1500. If you get to the limit, you will need to authorize them to actually put through the charge and start up another balance.

I FORGOT about this!! Don't know how I could've--we were at MK on one trip and it was downright COLD. Went into the Emporium to purchase some jackets/hoodies/whatever. Since we'd been there several days charging away on the room key, hadn't really thought about the limit--until the CM told me it didn't go through!! :scared1: :faint: I was so embarrassed! A quick call to the resort to authorize cleared it up, but I know the people in line had to be thinking "geez, she can't control her spending!!"

You could also for-go this route and purchase Disney Dollars instead to use on the trip. That's what I do just so I know exactly what I have with me, rather than forgetting how much I've already spent. It also prevents me from making more purchases than I need to and limits my impulse buys.

That is a really good solution--I always forget about those!!
