Using the Gyft App at DW

Hi, all. Long time lurker here. I have a question about setting gift cards up at our resort as our first form of payment with our MagicBands.

We have 12 total gift cards totaling about $800.00. Would the folks at the front desk at our resort (Saratoga Springs) be able to just scan the barcode my Gyft app creates for all of those gift cards combined or will they need to scan each gift card individually?

At the risk of insulting anyone's intelligence, the Gyft app basically allows you to store and combine gift cards from various merchants into one "virtual" gift card on your phone. I know DW accepts it in the stores, but I didn't know if they could (or would) accept it as my first form of payment on purchases I make with my (or my wife's) MagicBand.

Thanks for any help!

I don't know how they'd handle the Gyft app, but you can't "add" gift cards to your resort account. You need to put a credit card on the account, and pay off the balance incrementally with gift cards before they charge your credit card.

As of November 16, 2015, they can accept gyft, go wallet or passbook. i personally have never tried it. I have used samsung pay to do the same thing, my daughter has used the apple equivalent, and someone else I know used the generic android payment system around WDW. You just put your phone to the same terminal that someone paying with a magicband does (plus the normal click on things in the app, etc).

However if the gyft app works off the barcode (again never tried it), I have run into a lot of terminals where they said the scanner wasn't working or were never trained on it. Now this was with a food and wine gift card that gets the bar code scanned so I found it really odd that so many places around WDW property wouldn't use it.

The resort can open a folio account and fund it with gift cards or cash however they try to get you to put a card into your account and just come back to pay it off before it's charged. A folio account is the normal hotel thing for room charges and that's all magicband charging is. your just going to need to inquire at the resort when you get there but disney did announce they accept it a year ago.

Is there a reason you can't combine your gift cards into one card atleast? You can do so on Disney gift card.com. That way if the app doesn't work you have back up.
