Using the DAS pass for the first ride after being issued one

My daughter was issued a DAS pass for our trip in 2018. The cast member who issued it at Magic Kingdom allowed her to select the first ride she wanted to use it on right at guest services. This allowed us to go straight to that ride without having to register to use the DAS pass at the ride. If she is granted another DAS pass for our upcoming trip, does it still operate the same way for the first use? Or does it just depend on the cast member?

Thank you for the information. It sure did feel like pixie dust on our last trip! The cast member that helped us was so sweet and kind. She made the whole process so simple and she made my daughter feel so special!!! Just wanted to give my daughter a heads up that if she would get another DAS pass issued this trip that the process she remembered may be a little different.

It really does depend on the cast member. Some will do it for you, others will not.

I almost wish CMs would resist the temptation to give this kind of pixie dust. They run the risk of creating false expectations that may not be met on subsequent visits, causing frustration and disappointment.
I don't think it should be pixie dust, I think it should be automatic, after all you just spent your time waiting in line to get the DAS and speaking with them about your needs, etc. While that doesn't equate to the length of the queue for most attractions, that amount of time does equate to the time it would take to walk to said attraction or one of the kiosks in the parks that do have them to get your return time.

It may not be the line for Star Wars, but I have seen some EXTREMELY long guest services lines over the years!!!

Yep, that's kind of my point, issuing the first return time at guest services helps to make up for that bit of lost time because you don't have to walk all the way back to say Star Tours to get the first return time, which is why I think that should be standard practice.

That would be fine, too, if they decided to make that the official policy. But once they have a policy in place I think it would be better to stick with it as much as possible for a more consistent guest experience.

Then they should do that for every guest that has to wait in a long line, right? What about the person that waited in line for something else? Everyone who goes into the park has a point where there is lost time. Is Disney obligated to make up for that lost time as well?

It can not be automatic as long as they are giving DAS outside the park gates. The system will not allow you to get a DAS if your ticket has not been scanned for entry. What would work better for all lines is bring the blue umbrellas back so you can get a DAS from any location in park, reducing stress on front gate guest relations.

If you get it outside the gate, then that is your choice, but you would understand you are giving up the issuing if the first return time by doing so. But I do agree, bring the Blue Umbrellas back to all of the parks and make it official that you can get return times there or at the attraction.

Can you get a DAS pass outside the FW entrance at EP? Where is it located?

I have been offered that first DAS upon receieving it at guest services. And I have asked (gently, kindly, very nicely) and been almost lectured and shamed for even asking. OK well maybe not THAT extreme, but you get the idea. I just say, ok, I never argue about it. Then I stop asking, and it then another day it gets offered, so it depends on the CM. (sometimes we use one day passes so wew have to get a new DAS each day of the trip).

They do have an option for the day passes, such as comp tickets, etc., but you have to explain that you are using them and get the right CM. On the last day of our trip where this was an issue the CM offered it to us, of course had we known sooner we would have asked. Basically, they give you a paper DAS which has an RFID chip in it that is then linked to you and your party like a regular ticket would be. Still prevents duplicate DAS return times in the same party while providing an option for those using tickets this way.
