Using Reservation Points for Disney Collection

I'm having the hardest time being able to use my reservation points (we used our DVC points for a cruise and had to cancel one person last minute so I got reservation points back). Any experts out there know the secret to booking hotels in the Disney collection. There seems to be no availability in November. In December, it's very limited. How far in advance do you have to make these? Or anyone know when they release the rooms for 2019?

I will tell you about my experience. I used points to book the Disney Ambassador Hotel at TDR for last October. A Typhoon hit and we were stuck in china so we missed 2 of our 4 nights at TDR. When i got home, i contacted DVC and they had returned the points for those two nights to me. Because they were reservation points I was told I would have to use them as hotel, not DVC AND they must be used by the end of the use year. I thought about it for a day or two then called back and made a reservation for Beach Club for the Star Wars marathon weekend. So this was in November for an April stay.

You might need to be flexible with when you want to use them or where you want to stay, as I assume the same thing - you have to use them before your UY is up.

The fact that they say that you can use your points outside of DVC is more of a marketing gimmick IMO. They don't have to offer availability or they may only offer if they have rooms that cash guests don't want.

Won't these expire the end of your UY? I'd call DVC and see if you can get them to help you. I don't think you can wait list but maybe you can get someone to check for you periodically. It'd help if you can give them a firm commitment for dates you can accept so they don't have to go back and forth.
