Using regular bleach in a pool

Does anyone just use bleach for their pool? We have an above ground pool that needs some chroline. However, how does bleach work for maintaining pool ph levels?

Do a google search. I just did and there are all kinds of arguments about this. One thing is that laundry bleach is not as strong as pool chloride.

My niece was in a pool with laundry bleach in it and all the kids got a horrible red rash all over. To me, it had to have been the bleach.I would not do it.

Laundry bleach has alot of additives in it such as softeners and stuff. However, when my boys had one of those little fill every day pools I used to put a cup of bleach and a 1/2 cup of baking soda in it to keep it clean for the day. I would empty it out each night. I had read on line that this was ok for their skin and to keep bugs like mosquitos out.
You can buy chlorine tabs pretty cheap at places like Odd lots or Big Lots. Depending on the size pool you might spend around $30 -$50 right away but they tabs will last the entire summer.

We did it for one year. We did not have any problems. My daughter has extremely sensitive skin and the pool chemicals that we bought irratated her. I am not sure why someone got a rash. You have to use bleach without additives. I used the bleach from Aldi's. It is cheaper than using the chlorine packs. I think for the ph we used Borax or baking soda. (dont quote me on that.) I had found a forum on using bleach and they had all the measurements on it. It will depend on your size of pool. For us, we used approximately 1 jug a week. Sometimes we used 2-3 depending on use. We switched to a saltwater generator and no longer use the bleach. The forum I used was poolforum.com. Enjoy your pool!
