Using RCI points for a DVC stay?

We have a non-Disney timeshare and found out that we can use our points to stay at a DVC resort. Does anyone here know anything about that? The RCI people were not very knowledgeable.

1) Can we do ME? That's a big selling point for my DH.
2) Can we do EMH?
3) We'll have me, DH, and two older teens. Are we better off with a 2BR if we can get it? I'm not too picky about the resort (although I think I'd like the Wilderness Lodge Villas), but comfort in the room itself is important.

We've seen the models, done the tour, can't afford to buy, but thought this might be a good way to try it. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Sounds like you need a two bedroom if you can get one. There aren't that many available from RCI

We are using RCI points from my inlaws for a 2 bedroom at OKW in December and a 1 bedroom at Kidani in March. I started watching 10 months before we wanted the villas to see what would be available on the RCI site for Disney.

Yes, you can use DME and EMH. You can also add the Disney Dining Plan if desired. If you can find and reserve a 2BR it would certainly add to your experience.

I'd start looking well in advance of the time you'd like to go.

you should be aware that DVC will charge a $95 resort fee when you check in (which covers things like ME.)

but yes, if your RCI trader can pull DVC, it's a great way to try things out...

BTW, the VWL is pretty small...you will probably find more availability if you include larger DVC resorts like OKW and SSR...

Thanks! Good to know about the $95 charge. We're open to just about any resort. FYI, as of last night, there was a booking available at Wilderness for one week over this Thanksgiving -- Friday before to Friday after. That kind of surprised me. As did the low number of RCI points I'd have to use for that week (56,000).

Wow! That sounds great. Was it a 2 bedroom? Did you put a 24 hold on it? I wonder if it would be there today, I bet that got scooped up.
What were you trading to see Thanksgiving week?

Also, do you belong to tug2.net? It is a VERY informative Timeshare User Group, much like the disboards but for timeshares (although it does also cover DVC). I've learned TONS from that board. It is a small fee to join but for the honest reviews from tuggers and the information I learn on there it is worth it. I do own 420 points in DVC, but I also own a 3 bedroom at Waterside by Spinnaker in HHI and a 3 bedroom at Orange Lake Country Club in Orlando (which I LOVE BOTH of them very much!).
