Using Pools at other resorts

we are staying at AKL. For $25pp, we can add a guest to our room. So then they would be able to use the pool, right? Just pay $25 (sort of like a day fitness pass at some hotels) and they'd be entitled.

I'm hoping that will work; we have a relative coming from the west coast that we'd like to visit with in the FL sunshine so I was thinking the pool would be a good place to socialize one day. I'd be glad to pay $25 for her company if that would be acceptable!

Is this concept do-able?

I have crappy "pooh-dar" (meaning pool hopper radar :cool2: ) so frankly, what I don't know won't hurt me. It's not my job to babysit other families and when they're big girls like me, they do as they please. I know how I would feel coming back to a resort over run by non-guests and therefore will never pool hop... do one to others as you would like done to you.

I could never go on the "hunt" and question if the family with the great pool side table or the couple in the prime location lounge chairs are pool hoppers. I'd drive myself nuts! Pool Hopper or not... they got there first. If it wasn't the pool hopper, it would be another family, etc.

I have seen pool hoppers. Yes....it is frustrating when it is a whole bunch of them, but is it going to ruin my vacation? No way!! I am at the Mouse House. As I stated I am a rule follower. I will not report hoppers, but I do not think it is ethical to lug your family over from another hotel and hop on to another resort pool. I do think this has been a very nice thread!:)

Just out of curiousity, no one has stated they have not been able to get a chair..... the main complaint? Any true stories? Funny story, teenagers from MK, I'm assuming on their parents annual passes, clearly came over to the Poly. My only complaint, my husband noticing the pretty girls! LOL! I would have complained if there were not chairs for my family.

why too much trouble? how?
Okay, an example...I'm staying at BWV, but I think I would like to swim at the Volcano pool at the Polynesian. So, I now have to pack up all my swim stuff, lug it on the bus with me, to the MK, then get over to the Polynesian, have a swim, go to a bathroom to change and then go about my day. Or, as a family member does, go to MK, put the swim stuff in a locker and then retrieve it as they leave MK and go to the Polynesian for a nice swim before spending the rest of the day in MK! Way too much trouble for me..I swim where I'm staying.

Just out of curiousity, not being sarcastic in any way, have you been inconvenienced by a child swimming with other family? I'm very curious.
No, not by one child. But, I have been in pools with a family with many children (5) who were really obnoxious in the pool. How could I be sure they weren't guests? Ah, maybe by this comment overheard at the Volcano Pool..."Man, this is a great pool. We should stay here next year. It's much nicer than our motel pool!" Yep, that was a clue alrighty :lmao:

That's completely fair, if you are staying at a resort and don't have a lounge chair, I would be upset too, has this happened to you? Did you complain? What happened? I have been during peak season and have not been w/o a lounge chair. I would for sure complain.
I haven't complained myself...I should have. I just took a few chairs over behind some trees..all that was left that day..August at the Polynesian. But, I have seen lifeguards go around, asking to see room keys at BW's pool area.
Do I 'have' to have a poolside lounge chaise? Not so much anymore. But, back when my dd was younger, I liked to be near the pool while she swam. Yes, she was a fish, but you can never tell when something may happen. The thing I resented the most were the people that took up several tables/chairs, put towels on them and then left the area! Or those that put a towel and a book on a lounge chaise and went back inside the resort....doesn't leave any room close to the pool for those that are actively present, with kids in the pool. If you aren't there, you shouldn't be able to 'save' seats.
But yes....pool hoppers have inconvenienced me in the past. Did it ruin my vacation? Absolutely not. I just like to be sure to give accurate info here on the DIS....that's why I always suggest asking the lifeguard at the pool if your friends can use the pool with you. It's only polite. And they are usually given permission. It's only, like I said, those deluxe resorts with the fantastic pool areas, right next to a park, that seem to have their pools abused (for lack of a better word!!).

As I said, yes, I have gotten a seat, but not anywhere close to the pool. Or even where I could see my family while they were in the pool! This has happened to me at Luna Park at BW, at the Volcano Pool at the Polynesian and at SAB at YC/BC...man, that pool is just crazed. The rows of chaises are three deep and you have to crawl over people in order to get to a lounge chair. Nope, that is not my favorite pool area.

goofy4tink: those chair savers: YIKES!:scared: That could be a whole new thread for me. I always see books and towels to save chairs. The person who saved the chair is missing in action for hours. As I said it could be a whole new hot topic!!!

LOL, I wonder if that isn't what the problem is!

Even at water parks, I ALWAYS get a far chair and have problems finding it! Let alone my children! I lost them one time in the wave pool at Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio. It was packed!!!!

Who knows....maybe it is more about the chair savers than the pool hoppers?:confused3

That actually could be. I've only had problems just getting any chair at the Poly. At the Beach Club you could get a lounge chair...as long as you didn't mind having to crawl over other people. We ended up sitting in a couple of regular chairs by where the water slide emptied out.

So I can't for certain say that pool hoppers were the cause of our chair problems at the Poly, but I can see how it would cause a huge problem, if the lifeguards don't keep it in check.

I think we should all give each other a big CONGRATS on not letting this thread turn nasty!:cheer2: I think this is the longest pool hopping thread I have ever seen!

LOL, well if there weren't rows of chairs, they wouldn't expect rows of people. I guess someone is going to get stuck with the last row. Usually me, LOL. Im my experience, it's WORSE at the wave pool at water parks, I live fairly close to one and have gone once every year, I NEVER get a good chair- and NEVER one for everyone in our party! We usually share two chairs for four people. I have not been to a Disney water park, is it better?

This was not at a WDW Resort, instead it happened at a Marriott in Clearwater Beach/Sand Key. When you walked towards the pool there was a sign which said no saving pool chairs, however despite that guests would always do that. One day my family and I were going to the pool after eating breakfast and there were no pool chairs on either side, because they were being saved. Expect there were very few guests sitting in them and very few guests in the pool. So they were either still in the Hotel having breakfast or at a location within walking distance of the Hotel. So we told this to the front desk and we were told they would make it up to us. Anyway that night when we returned to our room and there was a little envelope with a card that said something like sorry for the inconvenience, to make it up they gave us a free dinner at their restaurant.

Awesome! Great customer service!

That's exactly what we said. In fact in one of my Hotel mangament courses a Marriott representative came to speak with us and I told them what happened and asked do they always go above and beyond for their guests when they have ligament complaints? I was told one of their priorities is to make sure the guest is always happy, so for them that's nothing new.

I bet they were behind the scenes looking into your complaint also.

Marriott is a good chain but like every other business there are times wehn customer service is not always the best.
