I am a non-DVC member who wants to rent pointsOKW is 41 pts each for fri and sat nights ($410 per night). The rack rate is $385. Can we use points for Mon-Thurs and have a separate ressie for the weekend? Is this a problem? Will we have to move to a different villa? Is it worth it to book separately or should we just do 6 nights in points ans pay the extra money for convenience? Give me your advice!

As an aside, if you're comparing points to dollars, did you add the 11.5% tax on the cash rate?

Not sure if you can link CRO/WTDC reservations and DVC so you do not have to move - that is a good question....

Anyone???

thanks

If you are going to pay rack rate, you must remember that that rate will be taxed at 10 or 11%??? That would bring your cost above the $410 to rent the points. However, there may be ways to get a cheaper cash rate. Members can sometimes get a cash discount, but I'm not sure if the rules would let them rent a room they booked with a member discount. There is likely some way to pay less than rack rate.

Good luck.....

DVC member's can't get the discounted rate and rent it to someone else. The member must stay in that room in order to receive the discount and the member's name will be on the reservation.

Thanks for the tax tip! I forgot that rack rate rooms are taxed, so that would bring the rate over $410 a night, so it IS cheaper just to rent points for our entire length of stay!!!

You didn't say when you are going, but the AP rate for a 1 bedroom at OKW is $301 including tax up to 7/3/03. The current code rate is $318 including tax.

I talked to MS this week about linking an AP reservation. They said they can't actually link them but they can note your points reservation. They can't guarantee you willn't have to move (but chances are you wouldn't, especially if the cash nights are at the end of your week). I have a member discount rate of $321 per night for 2 nights so I just decided to leave it rather than taking the chance to save $40.
