Using points to cruise

I know that DVC is not a good use for a cruise. However, at this time we are not planning a trip to Disney where we will be using our points. We have 56 left from 2002, 200 from 2003 and will have another 200 in March in 2004. My question is: Can I use my 256 points I have now and book the cruise and tell them I plan on paying cash for the remainder? Then when March comes along, tell them I want to use my points for the difference instead of cash. We are looking at going in July or August so the cash payment would not be due yet in March. However, I want to go ahead and book my cabin. Any ideas or thoughts?

FYI - All cash payments are due up front when booking through DVC. The 60 day rule does not apply.

You do not need to wait until March to use the points from March 2004. You just need to be traveling after March 1, 2003 to use them. (I have two reservations booked for 2004 using 2005 points as we speak)

Your 56 banked 2002 points will not be useful on a July/August 2004 cruise, they will need to be used by March 2004.

Also I do believe you are past your 100% banking deadline for 2003 points. You will only be able to bank 50% of your points into the March 2004 use year.

My first response had all the years wrong, I hope you got your years off too.

You are correct. My dates are wrong.
I have 56 points left from 2003. I have my 2004 points and want to borrow my 2005 points in March, 2004. It would be a total of 456 points I could use. We are calling member services now.
Thanks for the information.

Glad to hear that. (I am also glad to know that I am not the only one to get my years mixed up :) ) Good luck on getting the room you want. We really enjoyed our cruise. I am sure you guys will too.
