Using Points to buy/renew Sorcerer Annual pass

Thanks! I have been waiting for confirmation of this!! No issues with the castmember on the phone when you did all this?

Can you purchase the OTUP just to be used to buy the AP? You didn't have to play games with the OTUP being used for a room reservation first - you could just buy the points specifically to put them towards the AP?
Yes, I specifically said that I was buying the points to use for the passes. Since the FAQ says they can be used for the passes I didn't try anything sneaky. No acting like I was making a reservation or anything required. They put me on hold, I bought the points, then they renewed the passes with them.

Perfect. That's the answer I was hoping for! Thanks.

Can I purchase the OTU points and borrow points into 2025 from 2026 to purchase?

Yes borrowed and banked points are usable. So you should be able to both buy the OTUP and borrow if needed

My DVC membership contains a mixture of contracts: Points bought directly from Disney, Grandfathered points, and non-eligible points.

I would like to purchase an Annual Pass using the Membership Magic Beyond "price" of 75 points. I know my membership is eligible for Membership Magic.

My question is: Must the 75 points used to get the Annual Pass be from MM Eligible contracts? Or can I use resale points as long as they are in the same Membership?

Annual Passes purchased using your MMB benefit must use Blue Card eligible points.

Don't forget that you can buy 24 one time use points ($240) that can be used to buy your annual pass if you have a need for extra points

If you're eligible because you were grandfathered, are all your points considered Blue Card eligible points?
Depends on when the resale purchases were made. If before they added the restrictions, yes. If after, no. Each resale purchase is looked at separately when it comes to restrictions.

Some of my points were purchased after the resale restrictions were added. But they are all in one membership.

I know that all of my points are considered eligible for the purpose of going to Moonlight Magic. I received the invite email even when the points used for the reservation weren't grandfathered. So that's why I'm asking the question - can I use non-grandfathered points to purchase an annual pass?

We're in a similar situation and about to make this exact purchase. We need to use the grandfathered 'eligible blue card' contract points for the AP purchase with points. We cannot use the points from the other contracts that are later resale points we bought. The grandfathered time period is before 2016, I believe (but I'd have to look that up to verify). The restrictions are different for this purchase over the Moonlight Magic eligibility. At least that's what we've been told by MS, as we are preparing for an AP renewal soon.

Anyone think that this is an unforeseen loophole that Disney will close next year?

Thanks for the answer. And it was what I was hoping to hear. I know that 400+ of our points were before resale restrictions. But since I'm not sure of the date that resale restrictions went into effect, we MAY have 100 non-eligible points from our most recent contract (don't remember the exact date we bought that either). So we should be all set!

From what I was told is that the points have to be eligible for trades…so, resale has to be before April 2012

Given that people are now buying OTU points -!: then trading, my guess is no.

In the end, they may be selling more volume which has increased revenues advantages!

I don't think they will stop doing it and also don't think it was/is a loophole. It was on the FAQ that you could use OTUP for the passes well before any of the benefits went live. They easily could have prohibited their use for the passes if they wanted to.

Must be direct points.

Ok some bad planning on our part. Our pass expires October , but the have trips in May and November! We plan on using points for the pass as we won't be traveling much in 2026 so have points to burn.
As to the other point. As long as you are DVC-BY you should be good to go.
I wasn't able to renew or purchase with resale points. I am DVC-BY. Member services said it's like an exchange and can only be completed with direct points.

Double, double, triple check prior to purchase. I did a check via chat. They stated my points were eligible, called was told points were eligible. Purchased MMB & OTUY points then low and behold told my points don't qualify. 😒🙄
