The Disney Cruise Line charts in the DVC "Dream" book only go up to a category 4. Is it possible to book a category 3 suite with DVC points?

Thanks,

Brian

Suites are very hard to come by for a cash price since there are so few of them. I don't know if you can get a suite with points. You should call MS to see if it is possible.

Also, it seems as if you have a typo in your question. Cat 5 is not a suite. Suites are cat 1 - 3.

Thanks for the heads up, and you're right I meant cat 3. I went up instead of down! :sad2:

Yes it is. You'll have to call to check on avalibility & the points cost.
BTW, fasten your seat belt before they tell you how many points it will take!!
:lmao:

LOL, I knew when joining DVC that cruising was not the best value for our points. DW and I have been on a number of NCL cruises but we have yet to experience a Disney cruise. We just did a rebuy and with the developer points this would be the perfect opportunity to take advantage of a Land/Sea Disney vacation.

I called MS today. For a 3 day cruise in September a category 3 suite is 188 points per person :scared1:

Just my opinion, but don't bother with a suite on a 3-day cruise. It's really only 2 full days and you'll be in ports on both of those days. Go with a lower category cabin to save on points. I guarantee you you'll still have a fantastic time.

FWIW...We've sailed 8 times on DCL and have had inside cabins, cabins with portholes and verandah cabins. We had a great time on each of those sailings and the type of cabin really didn't matter.

Crafty - I appreciate your opinion and to be honest im not sure what we are going to do yet. We have a total of 485 points that we need to use by September 2009. 160 of those are developer points that need to be used at SSR. A 1 bedroom room at SSR for the week is 182 points which leaves us with 303 points. A category 5 stateroom comes out to be 274 points, so we will be leaving points on the table. A Category 3 suite is 376 points, so we would be borrowing from 2010 points.

Again I dont know much about DCL so I want to research the difference between the 2 categories and see if the upgrade is worth the extra price. We have been to Nassau a number of times so even at port we would most likely spend the majority of our time on the ship.

If you're going to go with a 5 you might as well save a few points and go with a 6 instead. There is absolutely no difference between the two cabins except for their deck location. 5s are on Deck 7 while 6s are on Decks 5 & 6. We've stayed on Decks 2, 5, 6 and 7 and found no difference between them. All offer proximity to some areas and are further from others so it really is 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of another.

I'd also recommend visiting the Cruise DISboard to get more info on DCL!

Here's my suggestion - book your cruise (try a Cat 6) and your land portion A La Carte and just add more nights on at SSR rather than waste the points. A Cat 6 and a Cat 5 are the same room, just diff. decks, so IMO not worth the extra points/cost...OR you could check out an even lower cabin category and go for the 4 n cruise!! If you are only 2 people and really want a verandah a Cat 7 is the lowest verandah category...I would at least check out a Cat 7 for the 4 n cruise and see how many points that would take before deciding...Or even a porthole cabin...on the shorter cruises you really aren't in the room that much... Just a thought...
