Before I even consider purchasing more points I have a question, and please forgive me if it was asked before and I missed it!!

I currently own 200 pts at BLT....

We enjoyed our recent stay at AKV....

If I purchase 100 pts at AKV, and I want to book a vacation using all 300 pts for a vacation at AKV, can I book the whole vacation 11 months in advance since I own at AKV, or would I have to book the 100 AKV pts part at 11 months and then book the BLT 200 pts part at 7 months??

This will be a BIG part of my descision to purchase any more points!!!!

Thanks all!!!

Points never change stripes. You can use only AKV points for AKV at 11 months out. The BLT points could be used at AKV only at 7 months out. If a single owner owning two resorts could use both at 11 months out at one resort then what would happen is that members would purchase all their points at SSR (which are going for only $62 a point in the resale market) and then purchase a 25 point add-on at BLT giving them the ability to use all of those points at BLT at 11 months out and effectively eliminating any home resort reservation advantage that BLT owners had.

Thanks for your reply!!!

Ok, that all makes sense!! So can I ask another question then???

If I book the AKV at 11 months and then I'm able to book the same room (size and view) with the BLT points at 7 months, will DVC arrange for me to stay in the same room, or is there a chance they'll make me change room during my vacation??

I could never understand people who want to stay at more then one resort during one vacation. I would eventually like to stay at each resort but I wouldn't want to have to switch rooms during the time I'm there!!! God bless those who do!!!

Yes, you can stay in the same room. MS can link the two reservations together so it will act as if you only have one. The rooms need to be exactly the same size and category for this to be done.

And don't forget you can borrow your next years AKV points (independent of your BLT points) to give you 200 points at the 11 month window. Of course, than you will not have any AKV points for next year (unless you borrow again).
You could also bank the first years, borrow the third years, and have 300 AKV points at the 11 month window to use in year two.

We usually vacation 10 to 14 days each visit. Splitting the vacation between 2 resorts is like having 2 different vacations. :thumbsup2

We love split stays and it makes us feel like two different stays. Plus, this summer we are doing 3 days at BCV (walking distance to DHS and Epcot) and then 3 days at BLT (walking distance to BLT).

We don't have little ones, DD is 14, but knowing that the only place we have to drive is Animal Kingdom (we don't do the buses) is going to be great!!

With the potential of 300 points for any one AKV trip, I wouldn't bother with trying to use the BLT points at AKV. We purchased two contracts at the same resort just so we would have access to most of our points at one time for ease of booking GVs. Now we also have a small AKV contract, and many times I have wished we had a larger AKV contract, but I have not had issues using my OKW points at AKV so far except for CL.

I agree with you about moving resorts. We have done it several times, but it's a hassle.

That's good news!!!

We won't be going every year since we live in NJ and we also love to cruise, especially at the age of my kids now!! I rented my 2010 and 2011 ots to pay for our 2011 cruise, and I was going to try and take my DBIL and his DW and 3 DS's to WDW in 2012 since he can't really di it on his own. But to get a room big enough for the 4 adults and 5 kids I'd have to see if I could do it on 2012 and 2013 pts. This would skip a WDW or DCL vacation in 2013, but it would be worth it for them!!!

I'd LOVE to take a 14 day WDW vacation!! Then I wouldn't mind switching rooms!!! How relaxing is that??? No rush, not having to be somewhere every day!! Pool days!!! Activities at the resort days!!! WOW!!! :woohoo:

Thanks for all the great input!!! :thanks: :disrocks:

LOL, we take long DVC/Disney vacations, and we still go to the parks every day!

Just done 14 nights spilt stay at BLT/BCV. Best of both worlds. Just like having two vacations. Bell services transfer bags, so no hassle whatsoever.

We're the same way, we always stay minimum 9 nights so we often do a split stay and it feels like a 'new' vacation since the themes are so different. :thumbsup2

The way my hubby has been raving about BWV we may need to add on there with a small contract.

I do have a question (sorry OP!) Say we have 100 bwv points plus our DVC points... say at 7 mos we book bwv with our BWV points it's 102 points... can we use 100 bwv and then 2 blt or do we need to do full nights at bwv then the one night we are short with blt points ((make sense lol)):confused3 and just bank those few spare bwv points for the next year.

At 7 months if you have one membership number with the 2 resorts, the resort points can be mixed for a night stay.
