We have a stateroom for this upcoming Thanksgiving cruise. We paid cash for it. My dad, who is a DVC member, is not going to be able to use his points before they expire ((by next June). Can we use them towards our cruise and get some $$ back? Or did we have to originally book the cruise with them?

Thanks for your help!

DVC Members have access to a limited number of staterooms on any particular cruise. Similar to CRO versus MS inventories, they are are not the same.

You would need to cancel your cash booked cruise (subject to cancellation penalties if applicable) and rebook through MS using points. Keep in mind that a Thanksgiving cruise at this late date may have limited availability either way.

Also booking via MS on points, you will pay a $95 booking fee to do so. Wouldn't your father be able to bank his points to the next year?

First, look at the point charts and make sure your Dad has enough points to cover a cruise over Thanksgiving - the required points could be substantial as that's a peak week. Second, have your Dad call DVC MS and find out what the availability is - since that is a popular vacation week and may have limited availability left at this point. Your cash ressie with DCL is refundable until you pay it off. But don't cancel anything until you've got the DVC thing worked out!
