Using Points for 2011 Cruise

Hi everyone,

Planning a 2011 cruise and will be using points. DH, me and DD are going and I don't have a lot of points left so I am thinking of using part points part cash.

My question is - can I use points for just the DD and cash for me and DH, or does it have to be an adult that I use points for?

Also, does not matter on my current planning, but for future ones - can one use borrowed points for cruises too?

No, you have to pay one adult on points, after that you can pay points or the discounted rate for each whole person. You can't mix points and cash for a single person. If you're that limited on points you should definitely look at the direct cash option as well as your points/cash combo options. Taking your specific question, IF you could pay for just one child on points and 2 adults on cash it's very likely that the total cash amount would be about the same even if you used the points for the one person. The reason is that you don't get the early booking cash price but rather a discounted full price rate which has almost always higher been higher than the early booking rate. The only exceptions I'm aware of are for the highest cabins that tend not to be discounted at all or as much.

Does anyone know if it's possible to book thru DCL directly right now and pay the $200 deposit per person, and then closer to the sailing date, convert the DCL reservation into DVC - meaning I can choose at that time to use all points or points&cash combo?

Has anyone ever done this before?

Yes, if DVC hasn't sold all of its allotment of cabins for that particular cruise.
