Using points elsewhere

Good day everyone. My family and I are interested in buying a contract, but we would like to get more information on how to and how many points are used to stay at other non-disney resorts. Also, how does using DVC points at other non-disney resorts compare to other Vacation club programs. ie Marriot, RCI
