using points at various resorts

is it possible to use dvc points at any disney resort? for instance, are the points only for use at dvc properties (okw, ssr, etc.......). or, can i rent dvc points to use at any resort on property (poly, pofr, all stars, etc....)?

DVC points can be used at all deluxe and moderate resorts. But staying on points outside a DVC resort is not the best use of points.

We have done it a number of times at YC, Coronado, etc. We were happy with the way we used those points. It probably is "costly" points-wise but lots of things are costly. We usually have trouble using our points before we lose them so a "costly" option isn't a bad one for us.
