Using Points at a Disneyland Resort Hotel then Upgrading to a Suite?

So, with my home being GCH and it being booked up for the entire summer, this new customer is left with few to no options for enjoying the park this summer except for staying at either the Paradise Pier or Disneyland Hotel. Unfortunately however, where is a family of 5 going to stay? The single rooms are going to be amazingly cramped, and they don't allow you to book the 1BR or 2BR suites at either PP or DLH on points. I'm going June 20th - 25th and it will be my DS, DD's first trip, along with a nice fathers day gift to myself, and a birthyday trip for my DW and I don't want to play complete havock with the kids sleeping schedule.

The question is, has anyone ever booked a room and then upon arrival offered to pay the difference to a 1BR suite?

That can't be done. It's either all points or all cash.

Contact your Guide and explain how disappointed you are. Disney keeps DVC rooms in reserve, so ask your Guide if they can work some magic. :wizard:

I have not heard of anybody upgrading with cash but I have heard of people using points to book the DLH suites. It was prior to VGC though and back when we also had access to concierge level so I don't know if you still can. It never was a standard thing and MS had to call the hotel I believe. Both of these threads reference suites at DLH.

Remember, all PPH rooms have the "turnover" sofa (I'd call it a pull out but that's not really the mechanism), and everyone who books 5 in a room at DLH on the disneyland forum has gotten the DLH room with a sofabed as well. Plus, the PPH rooms aren't that small to begin with!

Just an update,

For people wondering. If you do book (using points) at Paradise Pier, or the Disneyland Hotel you can pay cash to upgrade to a larger room. You cannot do the upgrade through member services. This has to be done through west coast Vacation Planning.

That is great the know. If we can't get a villa next spring, an upgrade might be something we'd want to look into. If you don't mind sharing, how was the upgrade pricing?

It's not great, but if you MUST have a 1br...

It is about 190$ off whatever the base rate is.

For example, in June the rate is around $655 a night for a 1br. What I'm thinking of doing rather than upgrading to a 1br, is to just book a regular room at the regular room rate and request the rooms be linked, walaa, 1br.

Also you can upgrade to concierge for around $120 reportedly.

When we stayed at DLH on points I requested a room with the daybed as we had two teens (male and female) who couldn't sleep together. Both times we had great rooms - much bigger than at GC. You would be quite comfortable with 5 in the room. One of the rooms even had a refrigerator and wet bar area.
