Using Points and Cash for Disney Cruises

I know that the points are 'set' each year for using them on a Disney Cruise, but how does the 'cash' part work. If I book 1 perons with points and the other 3 with cash, is that cash price set for the year or does it go up over time as you get closer to the sailing date?

Thanks,
DJ

The cash price is the same for the entire year. It doesn't go up or down as it gets closer to the sailing date.

DVC negotiates the cash price with DCL each year. It may be more or less than DCL or a TA is charging - as you already know, those prices do go up as the departure date approaches.

Best wishes -

Some things you should know.
  • You must book at least one adult on points.
  • The cash price for the others is almost always much higher than the advance early booking discounted price.
  • You must pay all monies when you book through MS.
  • If you make ANY changes, even adding another person or changing a name, you must pay another $75 fee.
  • If the price goes down or there are specials, you don't get to participate.
  • If you do cancel, the points go into reservation points and expire at the end of the use year and cannot be used for DVC resorts after that.
Thus, it's rarely a good idea to book through MS unless you have points to use or lose OR your late in the game and have missed the early booking discounts. And while the price will stay the same, DVC only gets so many cabins. So you may have a cruise available on cash but not on points.

Ouch! Thanks Dean. It certainly is something to think over carefully.

And that's always my point. Anyone can throw points or cash away if they want. And situations arise where the best option at the time isn't ideal, it's part of life. We're booked next June on RCCL. We have 3 cabins and even though we're still 9 months out, the price has gone up around $1000 total. By booking right when they opened up the ship, we got to pick exactly the cabins we wanted. To get them all together and get rooms that slept 3, that was no small feat. And this is a time that was available on FL resident rates for this past June with DCL and is typically discounted for RCCL. I'm assuming that DVC going west has increased the prices for RCCL 7 day out of Canaveral Good luck and enjoy.
